Kat Barrell and Melanie Scrofano Talk Tacos and ‘Wynonna Earp’ Season 3 at the ATX Television Festival [Video]
While at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas last week, we caught up with Kat Barrell and Melanie Scrofano, two of the stars of Wynonna Earp, to discuss their characters’ journeys and what to expect in the upcoming third season.
It was both Barrell’s and Scrofano’s first time at the ATX Television Festival — and at least one of them was looking forward to grabbing some tacos while in town!
On the subject of their hit Syfy series, when asked to describe Season 3 in just one word, Scrofano called it “badass.” Barrell said it was “fast” (or, more accurately, “action-packed”).

Scrofano also addressed how the birth of Wynonna’s baby, Alice, will affect and change her character going forward.
“Everything now that Wynonna does, says, thinks, has that under-layer of something greater than herself. Whereas before I think it was all selfishly motivated and ‘Oh, poor me, the curse, blah blah.’ And now there’s that extra layer of… desperation, I guess,” she explained.
The introduction of Mama Earp is also one of the most hotly-anticipated parts of Season 3.

“I can speak for Wynonna in saying that there’s nothing more complicated than a relationship between a mother and a daughter. So we’re gonna see more of that and maybe where Wynonna gets some of her famous traits,” Scrofano said.
“I love that about Mama Earp,” Barrell chimed in. “I loved seeing the aspects of Mama in each of Waverly and Wynonna. I loved seeing how she affected them, where they came from.”
Barrell, who portrays one-half of the fan-favorite couple Wayhaught, also previewed what’s next for Nicole and Waverly.

“I think this season we get a really nice sense of, as I like to call it, ‘domestic Wayhaught,'” she explained. “They’re a little more comfortable in their relationship, they’re a little further along. And I think we get to see them on a more intimate level, which I really love.”
