Good Girls Finale Review: Remix (Season 1 Episode 10)
While it seems Good Girls is telling a story about three women who find themselves falling down a criminal rabbit hole, on Good Girls Season 1 Episode 10, “Remix,” it’s the war with Rio that is front and center.
After a season of Annie making ridiculous plans and big mistakes, she comes up with a simple solution to their massive Rio problem. The solution coming from Annie is not too surprising because it requires out-of-the-box thinking, which is what ties all of Annie’s suggestions together.

While the plan to rob the supermarket again is initially deemed crazy, it is more indicative of what Annie brings to the table. There have been many mistakes, but the point is that her perspective is different from Beth’s and Ruby’s.
In the final episode, she proves what she brings to the table.
What stands out about the retread of hitting the supermarket is how much better they have gotten at being criminals. Of course, there are still unforeseen problems and mistakes, but the plan is much better this time around.
Annie being the inside woman and Ruby and Beth pretending to be hostages is a far cry from the amateur smash-and-grab from Good Girls Season 1 Episode 1. The scene that lays out the sophisticated plan gives Good Girls the thrilling feel of a heist film.

In the end, the trio gets the money they need for Sara, and the FBI gets enough evidence to arrest Rio. So this round goes to Beth, Annie, and Ruby.
Fortunately, in the midst of all the criminal activity, Good Girls finds time to devote to its other storylines. Specifically, the emotional family arcs.
Sadie and Sara are more than the reasons Annie and Ruby decide to commit the robbery that started this mess. They are interesting and fascinating young characters who bring something great to the show.
Often times, young characters bring the focus away from the main characters and action on shows, but these young characters are a strength. They bring fun family scenes to Good Girls and emotional depth to Ruby and Annie (characters who are spending each episode breaking the law).

It is through these characters that Good Girls reminds viewers what these women are fighting for. Thankfully, Sara got her kidney transplant and will be sticking around, because she’s great!
The finale also makes time to take down Good Girls’ most vile character, Boomer, a peg. Since his attempt to rape Annie, he has been creepily focused on the trio’s every move. While he is not removed permanently from the series, it is important to see him taken to task for his past actions.
If Boomer is going to come back in a potential second season, then Good Girls needs to create a situation in which his continued existence makes sense. He’s a boring creep, and there’s going to need to be a story that justifies him sticking around.

As for the end, it does effectively build real excitement and anticipation for a potential second season. Rio gets out of his arrest and ends up in Beth’s house with a battered Dean. And Stan figures out Ruby robbed the bank.
The trio will have to contend with even more problems, both professional — well, criminal — and incredibly personal, if the show returns.
In the final moments, Rio hands Beth a gun to shoot him while he sits next to Dean. And before we wrap up this season of coverage, I’d like to end on one thought.
Rio thinks Beth is not strong enough to kill him and take over his business, so he hands her the gun. It feels like a test after a season of Beth really coming into her own and enjoying being in criminal.

But he is not aware — no one is — that Beth knows Dean lied about having cancer. He uses that lie to weasel his way back into Beth’s life after she found out about all of the problems he caused his family.
Beth walks out of that hospital finally free of Dean, only to find him beat up and sitting with Rio. What if Beth shoots Dean out of anger? That would surely tie the trio to Rio in new ways.
