Empire Review: The Empire Unpossess’d (Season 4 Episode 18)
On the season finale of Empire, the Lyons lose everything… and gain a few things, too.
It’s an Empire season finale, so we’ve naturally got people dying, a surprise pregnancy, the threat of life in prison, and more than a little subterfuge. Oh, and a quick courthouse marriage.

Let’s look at those things one at a time.
Cookie’s Subterfuge
I gotta say, this is probably my favorite thing about “The Empire Unpossess’d.” When it comes down to it, Cookie has to take control and go against Lucious’ wishes. I mean, what is Lucious thinking? I really don’t get his explanation for why he’s insisting on going to prison FOR LIFE instead of selling Empire Records. He’s basically like: ‘because, music.’

Um, what?! Thank goodness Cookie sees how cray that is and steps in at the last minute. I’m genuinely excited to see where the Lyons go from here. Will they take Empire Records back? Will they start a new record company? Maybe one where Cookie is the boss (fingers crossed!)?
Tori and Anika
Okay, so I know I’ve been insisting that Tori and Anika go away for like a long time now, but I really didn’t expect them to both die in the same episode. I’m not going to argue with it, though. Although a tiny part of me thinks Tori isn’t really dead. I mean, maybe she just ran away and paid off the doctor? She seems to always pop back up.

And what the actual hell happens to Anika? What is the drug that makes a person go so crazy, so quickly? And so specifically?! Like – how did Andre do that?
Tiana’s Pregnancy
Should someone tell Hakeem about birth control? For real though, I like Tiana. I like Tiana and Hakeem together. I like where this is going. Unless one of them just got shot.

The Mystery Shot
Empire is basically incapable of creating a cliffhanger that doesn’t involve questioning who just got shot. I highly doubt it was Hakeem, and baby Bella makes it into the car, so things aren’t looking good for whatever that new rapper’s name is and Tiana. It’s not the most thrilling cliffhanger in that they aren’t really central characters, but… I guess I’m curious.

The Wedding
I really like that Cookie and Lucious get married at the courthouse and the vows they each say are really, really sweet… but… I have some questions about the proposal. I mean, how awkward was that?!

For one, aren’t we out of money? How big is that rock? More importantly, is Cookie really just messing with Lucious or does she have some doubts? Please don’t keep playing with my emotions about the two of them, Empire.

For the most part, I’m pleased with this finale. The Anika thing is a little absurd, but otherwise I feel good about where Empire is going. The Lyons without Empire Records definitely has me excited to tune in in the fall.

Well, Luscious going to prison would have left Cookie in charge. It may sound crazy for Luscious to make that decision but I don’t blame him considering how hard he worked to make the company successful and that’s not mentioning Cookie’s work and her sacrifice. However, I understand Cookie’s position too. Family first. I enjoy Luscious being in charge and watching the power play between him and Cookie. But that can easily happen with Cookie in charge too. As for Tiana she’s not loyal and should come crawling back. Helping bring Eddie back is something Luscious and Cookie won’t forget anytime soon.
