Carlos Miranda and Chelsea Rendon Talk ‘Vida’ [Video]

Interviews, Vida, Video

One of the many threaded themes throughout Vida is the rough journey that leads to self-actualization.

I recently got the chance to sit down with Carlos Miranda and Chelsea Rendon, two stars of Vida who had act out what this journey looks like. In the interview, we chatted about the show and how they prepped for their complex characters.

Miranda and Rendon’s characters, respectively Johnny and Marisol, go through a coming-of-age journey as they try to figure out their priorities and perspectives on life. Both Vida stars explained that this kind of character complexity could only be achieved by identifying their characters.

Miranda said he focused on trying to “compare myself to this guy as much as I could to understand him and get in his shoes.”

“It was more relating certain scenarios that I’ve dealt with in my life with an ex or having a child on the way,” he continued. “I don’t have a sister…”

“You do now!” Chelsea Rendon interjected with a laugh, referencing their on-screen relationship.

While Carlos Miranda prepped to get into his character’s shoes mentally, Rendon said she consulted a close friend to help her prep for the activist side of her character, Marisol.

“She was sending me articles and articles, and Instagram this, and Facebook this. So, it helped me a lot, and it was just it was so much fun to learn,” Rendon recalled with a smile.
