Caity Lotz, Brandon Routh, and Dominic Purcell teamed up for a panel at Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) in Chicago on April 7th, 2018 to discuss all things Legends of Tomorrow and the Arrowverse.

What’s Next For The Legends?

When asked where they would like to see the Legends go next, Lotz said she had been watching the cartoon movie Prince of Egypt a lot lately and would love to see an episode set in Egypt.

As for Routh, he would have liked the team to visit the revolutionary war again and have the chance to wear the uniforms since Ray missed out on the chance when he got trapped on the Waverider with zombie Mick.

After a fan prompted Purcell with a question about whether or not we would be seeing more of Mick’s fanfiction in the future, he joked saying, “Mick will be writing very raunchy erotic stuff.”

Lotz and Routh piled onto this by saying that they should do an episode where they get trapped in Mick’s novel.

The consensus on that was Ray would definitely end up in drag.

Sara’s Relationships and Representation

When the panel was asked to name their favorite scenes to shoot, Lotz admitted that she loved shooting the scene where she and Ava are in bed together because they got to nap in between takes.

Or as Lotz put it, “Basically any scenes where Sara makes out with someone.”

Of course, with talk of Ava and Sara having such an intimate relationship together, Lotz was asked to elaborate on representing the LGBTQ community on screen, and what she thinks of playing such an openly bisexual character.

Lotz explained that what she loves most about portraying such a character is that it isn’t a big deal that Sara is bisexual: “She just is what she is, and there are no labels needed.”

As for hearing how people have resonated with the character, Lotz said she is so happy every time to hear how much her character has affected people.

What Makes Legends Work?

As far as characters go, all three actors spoke about what made these parts and this show work so well together.

Ever since she started working on Arrow, Lotz thought Sara should be the boss, so her development on Legends of Tomorrow just seemed like a natural fit for the character.

She thought their characters come very close to who they are in real life. Purcell agreed, saying that he believes this is why the show works so well because there is so much adlib and spontaneity.

Purcell went on to talk about the fact that he had never had the opportunity to play a comedic role before Legends of Tomorrow but loved getting the chance to portray a character like Mick Rory that does get to be that comedic relief.

Routh added onto this by talking briefly about the process of bringing these characters to life, and how the cast and crew take what they have from the script and collaborate to make the entire thing pop.

Ray and Nora

If you didn’t already know, Brandon Routh who plays Ray Palmer and Courtney Ford who plays Nora Darhk are married to each other in real life.

Well, Routh touched on what it is like to act side-by-side with his wife on Legends of Tomorrow, explaining how Ford first screen-tested for the role of Laurel Lance on Arrow before coming to Legends of Tomorrow.

Routh said he knew his wife could go “full evil” and that she was “amazing at it.” This comment warranted some laughter from the audience, and he continued on by elaborating that they have played romantic couples in the past but never enemies at odds.

But Routh’s working relationship with Ford was not the only relationship fans wanted to know about.

A fan asked what it was like to work with a cat in his Hallmark movie Nine Lives of Christmas and Brandon couldn’t help but laugh as he talked briefly about the difficulty of working with the lead cat, and its dislike towards him. But overall, he said it was definitely a unique experience.

Prison Break Update

Once other accomplishments in the actors’ careers became a topic of discussion, it seemed like only a matter of time before Prison Break came up.

Legends of Tomorrow has been very gracious to fans of the hit Fox breakout series over the years as Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller have made multiple references to their characters’ time spent in Fox River together.

While Purcell couldn’t give much information on where the revival is at with the development of season 6, he said Prison Break “is being written, and it is very likely it will be done.”

Switching Places

The question was asked if the Legends could acquire a character from another Arrowverse show, who would they choose?

First to answer was Lotz, who said she would steal Iris West from The Flash because she and Candice Patton are friends in real life.

Lotz also spoke about Patton earlier in the panel when the topic of crossovers came up.

She explained that the Arrowverse crossovers are great because she can drive to set with Patton, but she said, “logistically it’s a nightmare because you’re shooting four episodes at once and don’t know what show you’re on.”

Routh, who admitted he is not caught up on Arrow, said he would love to have Felicity join the Legends if she was still available so Ray could have someone to talk shop with again.

And what if they could switch places with another superhero in any of the respected universes?

Lotz didn’t hesitate with her answer. She would play Captain Marvel and would gladly take Brie Larson’s place in the new movie adaptation if she could. She also added that she would be up for playing Batgirl as well.

Routh, on the other hand, would be Doctor Strange because he is really into the sorcery vibe of the comics.

However, Purcell is happy with just playing Mick Rory.
