Blindspot Review: Galaxy of Minds (Season 3 Episode 19)
We can add sonic rays to the list of unpleasant ways to die. Blindspot Season 3 Episode 19 “Galaxy of Minds” has Team Weller work with a conspiracy theorist to attempt to solve a tattoo while Roman tries to balance his secret missions with his relationship with Blake.
The plot behind Golden Rhino is really entertaining, in part because the conspiracy theorist, Daschelle “Dash” Watkins, is an interesting character. Watching him work with Patterson is funny, but funny in the way where you’re glad it’s not you that has to work with him yourself.
While Dash is an eccentric character, the weapon is very real, and very scary. The fact that this weapon isn’t one that can be traditionally stopped is freaky, and puts Sheppard’s plan to irradiate the Eastern seaboard to shame!

What really keeps the plot of “Galaxy of Minds” moving though, is Roman’s arc. Now that Roman’s flipped the switch and his loyalty lies solely with Crawford and his personal life with Blake, he’s struggling to keep a hold on the two objectives.
Seeing Roman become unhinged is both unsettling and interesting to watch at the same time. Luke Mitchell does a great job showing us how Roman seamlessly gets into character as Tom Jakeman and I don’t think a phrase scarier than “choke quieter” has ever been uttered.
Roman also entertains the possibility of telling Blake everything on this episode, and it is one of the most exciting moments as far as Blake’s character is concerned, but it quickly rewinds to Roman maintaining his cover.

On “Galaxy of Minds” I feel like I am slowly losing my patience as far as Blake is concerned. Recent episodes have shown that Blake’s characterization has been very uneven to the point where I don’t know what she knows about her father and what she doesn’t.
When we were first introduced to her, it looked like she had no idea who her father was and that she was kept completely in the dark. Then there was Blindspot Season 3 Episode 13 “Warning Shot” where she was trying to mastermind something to help her father that resulted in a kidnapping.

If she’d kept a moderate knowledge of what her father does, I wouldn’t be as skeptical now, but as recently as Blindspot Season 3 Episode 17 “Mum’s the Word” she acted like she had no idea who her father’s associates were.
The deeper we get into this season the more it feels like Blake is either a dark horse that will betray Roman, or she really has no idea and that kidnapping plot is the most out of character arc that we’ll see for her.
Also, somewhere in this entire scenario, I keep expecting Blake to announce that she’s pregnant, just to further complicate where Roman’s loyalties lie.
Stray Thoughts
- It’s about time that Jane and Kurt invited Avery to stay with them. It’s great that they’re starting to rebuild their relationship a bit, but I am still hoping we get a definitive answer as to what happened to Avery’s dad.
- So, Roman attempts to have assassins kill Team Weller, fails, and then just gives up? Does anyone else really think that he wouldn’t keep trying?
- Reade’s reaction to everyone’s glares when he declares what kind of beetle the tattoo is made up of is priceless.
