Julia and Josh venture to the 23rd timeline after D-Josh asks for their help defeating the beast on The Magicians Season 3 Episode 11, “Twenty-Three.”

1. Penny and Marina returned to Josh and Julia’s current timeline. How do you feel about this?

Allison: I’m so excited to see them mingle with everyone in our timeline! I’m betting we are going to get some great reactions.

I’ve missed Marina, so I’m glad that we’re going to have her and her sass back in our lives. The same goes for Penny. It’s doubtful that we’re going to see our Penny anytime soon, so it will be wonderful to have this version of him back in the quest. Plus, I’m suddenly shipping Penny and Julia, so I’m hoping for more moments between the two.

Lisa: I am looking forward to seeing where this twosome takes us in our quest. Double the Penny and Marina are going to be an interesting addition, and I can’t wait to see what happens with the group dynamic.

Cade: I’m ecstatic for Marina to be back and to see how everyone reacts to her presence, especially Kady. I’m excited to see this Penny join the adventure, but I fear that means we could possibly not get our Penny back from the underworld.

2. What do you think The Quickening is and why has Josh never heard of it if it’s common with werewolves?

Allison: I have no idea, but it sounds really ominous. Maybe that version of Josh did more research or interacted with chattier werewolves. Josh is becoming one of my favorites, so I’m worried about him now. Whatever The Quickening is, he needs to start doing some research and try to figure out a way to stop it or avoid it.

Lisa: I am not sure, but I think Alternate Josh has a few clues. Everything felt really ominous between the two Josh’s that I can’t help thinking that there is going to be a really big catch coming when Josh figures it out.

Cade: It was shrouded with so much mystery, but when I looked it up the only thing I could piece together is that Josh could possibly be pregnant or becoming a werewolf. Either way, things are going to get complicated for Josh real fast.

3. What was your favorite part about the Josh-Julia solo adventure?

Allison: I honestly really loved how quickly Josh caught on to Julia’s warnings about alternate timelines. He was just like, “oh yeah, got it.” He’s got quite a bit of knowledge on alternate timelines, it seems.

One of the great things about this season is that we’ve gotten some interesting pairings. People who don’t normally spend alone time together, like Josh and Julia, are going off on their own. It’s been really interesting to watch, and the dynamics have been great.

Lisa: I enjoyed that they got to learn a little more about each other. This was kind of an unlikely pairing, and the fact that Josh and Julia had a whole episode together was a great way to see how their paths were so different but still brought the two together. And it seemed like they were quite in step with one another too, so it was definitely entertaining.

Cade: I think mostly the fact that they bonded. I love when two characters who don’t normally interact pair up and spend time together. Hopefully, this dynamic sticks even when they join up with the rest of the group.

4. What was your reaction when Julia put her shade inside of Quentin?

Allison: That she’s insanely smart, and you definitely don’t want to mess with her. Seriously, brava Julia. That’s some A+ thinking on your feet there, and it’s the perfect way to bring this version of Quentin back to reality.

As she said, she has learned to live without her shade; she doesn’t need it to be a somewhat good person. Q loses it, and suddenly he’s the beast 2.0. In case you needed another reason why Julia is better than Quentin, this is it.

Lisa: Julia is crafty, and when she made that move it showed she can think on her feet and use some critical thinking skills shrewdly. She has been without her shade before, and it hasn’t held her back in any way.

I maintain Julia will save them all if everyone gets out of her way and stops trying to steer them off course. She’s Buffy, and if an apocalypse or anything else is on its way, Julia Wicker will be the one you place your bets on.

Cade: Julia is a mastermind magician, and she shouldn’t be messed with. I love how intelligent she is and that her powers continue to grow exponentially. We all know that Julia doesn’t need her shade to be a decent person anymore, but I was slightly frightened that she wouldn’t get it out of Quentin in time before he died.

5. Do you think that Quentin’s vision about Julia could come true?

Allison: I think so. It’s not something that should be taken lightly. Hopefully, Julia will tell the others about the vision, and they can try to prepare for it. This way even if it comes true, maybe Julia or Alice or someone can kill whatever monster comes through before it has a chance to wreak any havoc.

Lisa: I have a feeling it will be what comes to a head as we have only two more episodes left. Visions aren’t to be taken lightly, especially when it comes to this series. So I am hoping Julia starts to prepare and makes sure she has some magical backup for whatever is seemingly inevitable.

Cade: I think that it’s a huge possibility because most visions tend to come true. I think this is a hint at what the big bad for next season could be; I just hope that magic is restored before they face another monster.
