How To Get Away With Murder: Who Is Gabriel Maddox?
Who is Gabriel Maddox? Bonnie’s son. How do I know? The writers gave us the answer 10 episodes prior to the How To Get Away With Murder Season 4 finale.
Many questions come up in “Nobody Else Is Dying,” and I answer them all in my review of How To Get Away With Murder Season 4 Episode 15. However, Gabriel Maddox requires more than a paragraph or two answer, especially since show’s creator, Peter Nowalk, alluded to how big a role the mystery will play in season 5.
First, it would be best to mark the evidence that leads me to believe Gabriel is Bonnie’s son. Let’s go back to my review of How To Get Away With Murder Season 4 Episode 5.

In the fifth episode, it seems weird to have an entire episode focus on Bonnie and Annalise’s estrangement when she was estranged from everyone at the time. Although this may be true, Bonnie was the only one so far in the season that was actively trying to tear Annalise and her career down.
Because of this difference, it only seems right to assume they gave us an entire episode into Bonnie’s past so that Bonnie’s eventual apology to Annalise would gain the proper build-up and so that we could gain empathy for her character.
However, now I see that they also gave us this episode to recall Bonnie’s childhood and lay the groundwork for the following season.
When they flashback to the day Annalise has to cross-examine Bonnie in the courtroom, Bonnie’s lawyer makes Bonnie recount every depressing detail of her rape and ultimate pregnancy at 15.

VIOLA DAVIS
When Bonnie’s lawyer asks her what happened to the baby, Bonnie responds by telling us the child was dead.
Bonnie: I don’t know. I passed out during labor and when I woke up my father told me the baby was dead.
Annalise goes on to try to convince Bonnie she had a “hysterical pregnancy,” and the baby never existed, but, in the finale, we not only find out that her baby did exist but we also find out that he’s still alive by getting a peek into her folder.
For those that think that maybe we shifted to another folder while the camera closed in on the details, you can still see the red rim of Bonnie’s folder around the DNA match information and Denver’s handwriting. Annalise’s folder is blue.

CHARLIE WEBER, VIOLA DAVIS
So, that leads us to Gabriel Maddox. If he’s looking at Middleton University, he has to be around than 22.
It can’t be Annalise’s child because she miscarried in 2005, and nowhere in the series did they say we did a 10-year time jump. However, it could be Bonnie’s child because that would make her, reasonably, 37.
Calling back to the court scene between Bonnie and Annalise on How To Get Away With Murder Season 4 Episode 5, another main point Annalise tries to drive home as she’s grilling Bonnie is that the rape occurred 10 years prior to their court date.
That court date was around the time Annalise got pregnant, so we can land that year at around 2005.
Stay with me here. The child would have been around 10 years old in 2005, which would then make him around 22 years old in present day. The perfect age of Gabriel Maddox. Coincidence? I think not!

So, now that we know Gabriel Maddox it is Bonnie’s child, why do we care? What will his twist add to the narrative?
I don’t know, guys. I don’t write this show; I just do an amazing job analyzing it.
My predictions would be that Maddox’s father is either embroiled with Laurel’s father, one of Annalise’s cases from the U.S. Supreme Court case that will be tried again, or Maddox himself killed Denver to protect his mother — not Mr. Castillo.
Another question I wish I could answer is why Nate lies to Bonnie about burning the files.
You would think after everything he, Bonnie, and Annalise went through together during this season that he would solidly be on Team Keating. However, keeping blackmail files and going through them to find dirt definitely seems like more of an Anti-Team Keating action.

Who knows, maybe Nate is just being super curious and nothing bad will come of his snooping.
Ha! Okay, I didn’t believe that either. This is How To Get Away With Murder we’re talking about, written by the glorious writers who code meaning into every move each character makes down to the breaths that they take.
It’s definitely going to come and bite everyone in the butt. The only question is when.
What do you guys think of that final twist at the end of the How To Get Away With Murder finale? Are there any questions you still have left that I haven’t touched on?
