The Magicians – Season 3 The Magicians Roundtable: Has Alice Turned A New Leaf?

The Magicians Roundtable: Has Alice Turned A New Leaf?

Roundtables, The Magicians

Margo and Eliot hit a stopping point, Kady escapes her imprisonment, and Alice has a realization on The Magicians Season 3 Episode 7, “Poached Eggs.”

Along with Eliot and Margo being dragged away by a hoard of angry Fillorians, Fray has also dropped the bomb that she isn’t really Fen and Eliot’s daughter.

Tell-Tale TV writers Christina Cerutti and Cade Taylor, joined by Starry Constellation Magazine writer Lisa Steinberg, discuss the episode below.

1. Were your theories about Fray correct?

Lisa: I knew I felt like something was off since she had been so shrouded, suddenly showing up and being touted by the Fairy Queen as Eliot and Fen’s well-aged daughter. It was sad to have my instincts confirmed.

Christina: I hadn’t expected that she was just some random human that wasn’t even their blood. It was so sad. I actually really want to know where she has come from because she seems like she doesn’t have anyone, never has.

And Eliot telling Fen that when they thought she was their daughter they were going to do everything in their power to save her, that meant something to her. I honestly didn’t expect to like Fray as much as I did.

Cade: Yes! I’ve had my suspicions that she isn’t their real daughter since day one. There was a brief moment where I thought that maybe she was, but my feelings of her being an imposter never went away.

Fray was always too concerned with what Fen and Eliot were doing when it pertained to the Fairy Queen. It doesn’t matter that she grew up with the fairies if she was truly their child she would have helped them out instead of betraying them.

Although I am glad to be right about my assumptions it’s sad because now we don’t know what’s going to happen to Fray. For all, we know the Fairy Queen will just kill her.

2. What did you think about Alice realizing her wrongdoings and willingly returning Julia’s magic to her?

Lisa: I think Alice is recognizing that she’s not capable of controlling herself around magic, much like Willow in Buffy. And she sees the effects it has had on herself and the people around her she has hurt because of it, including Julia. I am glad she returned the magic and hopefully from here on out she will respect and remember how magic can be a blessing and a curse.

Christina: I AM SO PROUD OF ALICE. She has grown SO much. For her to realize her mistakes and to actually give Julia her magic back was just fantastic; she’s come so far. Plus she felt it in her body, it wasn’t her magic, it didn’t go with her body. To try and keep it would’ve been too much trouble. Julia and Alice really have a nice friendship building up, I’m really liking it.

Cade: I absolutely loved it! This moment shows so much character progression for Alice. Magic is her life, but last time she didn’t care when it was too much and hurt the people around her, as well as herself. I’m so proud of how far she’s come, and I can’t wait to see her journey.

3. Penny is in the Underworld, banking on everyone else doing their part. Do you have any fears about this next quest?

Lisa: I have my trepidations, anything can happen, and knowing this bunch when it’s bad it most definitely gets worse. But as always where there is a will, there is a way. And that’s what this group shares so much, an iron will. When they come together there is no stopping them.

Hiccups and hi-jinx will happen, but the quest must continue! Penny is clever and if anyone can find a way to make it work, it will be him.

Christina: So many fears. I just want Penny back and everyone to be safe and okay because they’re my babies and I love them.

Cade: I have quite a few fears, but I think that Penny is skilled enough in saving everyone’s butt that it’ll work out. I just want him to be back to normal and no longer a ghost.

4. The Fairy Queen still pulled one over on Eliot and Margo, even when they thought they had the advantage. What do you think awaits them in next week’s episode? How will they save themselves?

Lisa: The Fairy Queen does everything as strategy, and she doesn’t hold back. It’s a Chess match that you can’t look away from because it’s all done as an art form. I don’t know how they will save themselves, but like the Fairy Queen, Margo can be ruthless too. The Fairy Queen may have gotten the upper hand for now, but the High Queen will reign supreme.

Christina: I’m worried. An angry mob is never good. It’s a long shot, but I’m really hoping fake Fray comes and saves them. Maybe a Fray and Todd tag team? Because Todd is always around. I do agree with Lisa, Margo is ruthless so it’ll be interesting to see the lengths she’ll go to.

Cade: I am worried because Eliot and Margo don’t have any magic so they can’t fight their way out of this. But I agree with Lisa, Margo doesn’t back down from a fight, and I have high hopes that she will come out on top.

5. What are your current feelings about Poppy?

Lisa: Evil!! She has her own agenda and is manipulating her way with Quentin and now into his bed. I don’t know for sure what her big plan ultimately is, but they are definitely underestimating her and she will double cross them when the advantage works her way.

Christina: I really like her and I think that’s mainly because she’s being portrayed by Felicia Day and I absolutely adored her on Supernatural.  Otherwise, I think she has a secret agenda, like Lisa mentions as well.

Cade: I don’t like her at all. As Lisa said, she has her own secret agenda, and I don’t think she cares about anyone other than herself. I am worried about what’s going to happen in the underworld. For all, we know Poppy needs something from there and she’s using them to get what she wants.
