Lethal Weapon Review: Double Shot of Baileys (Season 2 Episode 14)
Everyone goes for the gut punch to the heart on Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 14, “Double Shot of Baileys.” Seriously, there are emotional moments everywhere, and it’s amazing.
This hour is a great reminder as to why we love this show so much. It’s not about the antics that Riggs and Murtaugh get into, although those are always ridiculously entertaining; it’s about the people and the relationships.
With Riggs and Murtaugh bickering more than usual, we finally get to switch up the partners.
Murtaugh: Let’s go.
Bowman: Wait, you mean like you and me, together?
It’s the stuff of dreams. The only downside is that it doesn’t go on long enough. Bowman has so many more playlists that deserve to be heard. Maybe next time he can ride along with Riggs and share his high-speed chase playlist.
In all seriousness, it’s great to explore more of Bailey and Riggs’ relationship and to see Bowman interact with Murtaugh because that almost never happens.

Bailey and maybe Bowman will pop up every now and then, but they rarely get a chance to shine. By switching up the partners, the B team is given more to do like acquire drones for super important police business.
We get the smallest glimpse into Bailey’s life, which has been a long time coming. When she opens up to Riggs, we learn that they have more in common, childhood-wise, than we initially thought.
It’s a short scene, but it deepens their relationship. I don’t think they’ve ever really talked about something personal before. It would be nice to see more of that.
Hopefully Jess will make another appearance because I’m sure she could share some funny and embarrassing stories about her older sister that everyone, mainly Scorcese, would love to hear. Also, Jess is pretty awesome.
What did you think of the Bailey-centric episode? Next we are going to need either an Avery-centric hour or a Bowman one. I’m not picky about who gets their episode first, but this needs to happen. Don’t you agree?
Anytime Riana is around, you know you’re in for some fun. She always livens up an episode.
Spying on Robbie delivers the awkward hilarity of Murtaugh trying to help Riana in any way that he can, and it also gives us some heartwarming moments between father and daughter.
We don’t often get a chance to focus on Riana and Murtaugh’s relationship. Sure, it is a bit silly with the two of them on a stakeout, but it’s a storyline that doesn’t involve the two of them at odds, and that’s something we haven’t really gotten to see much of.

Riggs spiraling is nothing new. We’ve seen him in a dark place ever since his first day with Murtaugh. He’s been through therapy sessions with Cahill, made some progress, and taken five steps backward.
What we haven’t really seen is Riggs realizing how bad things have gotten.
The moment Riggs realizes that he’s turned into his father is a gamechanger, and it seems to encourage Riggs to get up off his butt and ask for help.
Riggs: You look out for me, Rog.
Murtaugh: I do.
Riggs: It’s been a long time since anyone’s done that.
In all those flashbacks, you can see how ashamed young Riggs was of his father, and now Riggs is seeing people display that same shame when recalling the antics he got into the night before when he was blackout drunk.
Here’s hoping that we continue to see Riggs work at changing, both in sessions with Cahill and in conversations with Murtaugh. Riggs is going to need his partner more than ever.
