Black-ish: 8 Best Moments from “Charity Case” (Season 4 Episode 8)
As always, Black-ish delivers another cleverly topical and delightful episode. From heartfelt to hilarious here are the best moments from Black-ish Season 4 Episode 8 “Charity Case.”
1. “We had to cross a freeway.”
Black-ish is probably the best I’ve ever seen when it comes to executing brief flashbacks for context and this one is hilarious. This line from Jack doesn’t even really have anything to do with the purpose of the flashback, as it’s to show how Dre forgot about Rainbow’s charity trip. But the way that he delivers it is so perfect. Easily one of the funniest moments on tv this week.
2. Dre teaching Junior to drive
We’ve seen the “Dad terrifies the child they’re teaching to drive” trope a dozen times, but Black-ish still makes it hilarious and relatable. From Junior freaking out and buckling under the newfound responsibility that comes with driving, to Dre imparting the seriousness of it by saying you’ll literally kill your family if you mess up, this is another perfectly executed flashback.

3. Ruby getting a dirty phone call in the car
Everyone knows Big Mama J likes to get down and more power to her! But it’s always fun to see her get caught in awkward situations with her shenanigans too. Having one of her bae’s call her in the car and interrupting Juniors terrible podcast has me giggling as much as Jack and Diane.

4. Charlie’s CPR Dummy
Charlie is easily one of the best and most underrated parts of Black-ish. He has so many subtle yet genius moments throughout the series and “Charity Case” is no different. He reveals to Dre that he uses a black CPR dummy as a stand in to trick their boss into thinking he’s always at the office, it even got him a raise. It’s brilliant in a way only Charlie could pull off.
5. Jack and Diane want Junior to drive them again
Even though Junior thinks that he ruined the day he had planned to spend with the twins, they ended up loving it. Fun comes from the most unexpected places, and though Junior tends to be the family goof a lot of the time, it’s great to see him get some love and respect from his little siblings.

6. Janine drops the lasagna
As their token white neighbor who frequently doesn’t actually listen to a word they say, it’s kind of amusing to see her put her foot in her mouth just as frequently. Dre and Bow hiding from her and then eventually yelling at her to just go away is great. I probably would’ve done the same thing.

BECHIR SYLVAIN, NICOLE SULLIVAN
7. Jack and Diane need burner phones for…something
While at the gas station Jack picks up burner phones for himself and Diane. With Diane’s evil-mastermind brain, these two are always up to something. And just like most of Charlie’s shenanigans, Diane’s make me laugh as much as they make me tilt my heads.
8. Dre takes Greg out to coffee
When Dre finally sees Greg as a person and not a problem, a “homeless man” who’s as anonymous to him as he’d been in his own charitable donations, it changes his whole outlook on giving back. When we look at the people that we are helping, and we see them as people and we know that they’re our neighbors, we see the real importance and the meaning of charity.
