Lethal Weapon Review: Gold Rush (Season 2 Episode 6)

Lethal Weapon, Reviews

On Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 6, “Gold Rush,” there’s a very serious investigation going on. No, I’m not talking about the robbery homicide — there’s a joint in the Murtaugh household.

This is just a fun storyline. It would have been better if Murtaugh would have interrogated his family, but the drug test angle is amusing as well, especially Trish’s reaction to it.

Thank goodness the joint isn’t Riggs. It would have been the predictable way to go, and it would have earned an eye roll instead of laughter.

Murtaugh getting high on gummy bears, however, earns all the laughter.

Riggs being there for his super high friend is such a sweet moment. How do you think RJ and Riana would have reacted if they saw their dad while he was high? They would have never let him live that down.

Lethal Weapon Disappointment

While Riggs feeding Murtaugh Cheese Wiz and crackers is a great friendship moment, it’s not the best one of the hour. That honor goes to Avery and Riggs.

It would have been really easy to have Avery yell at Riggs about the various ways he obstructed the investigation.

Avery’s the boss; it’s expected. Riggs did put Jake over the case numerous times, so he had a good lecture or two coming.

Instead, Avery sympathizes with Riggs and agrees to keep his secret. Avery’s still the boss, but he shows that he truly cares about his staff.

Avery has a unique relationship with Riggs and Murtaugh. He does a fair bit of yelling at them for destroying the city, sighing while they try to explain how they didn’t mess out, and, above all, looking out for them.

Whenever he’s in the room with Murtaugh and/or Riggs, you know it’s going to be good.

It’s nice to focus more on the friendship aspect of Avery’s relationship with Riggs. It would be really interesting to see Avery with the guys outside of work. Don’t you agree?

We learn a hell of a lot about Riggs during this hour. Yes, we finally learn the circumstances surrounding the death of Riggs’ father, but what’s even better is that we get to see Riggs with some old friends.

Riggs: When I was at my weakest, and I couldn’t fight back, Jake saved my life.

Ever since we met him, Riggs has been struggling to fit into his new life without Miranda.

Aside from Miranda’s father, Riggs had no local friends when we first met him. We watched him forge friendships with his new colleagues at the LAPD and the Murtaughs.

We haven’t really seen Riggs around people he’s been friends with for years. He’s a different Riggs around Jake and Molly. The Texas twang even comes out a bit more.

The case itself isn’t anything special. It’s a little hard to follow at times, specifically as to how Jake ends up with the gold. Seeing as how it’s an inside job, I’m assuming the gold wasn’t even in the safe to begin with, but that’s never really made clear.

Yeah, I’m still fuzzy on the details. Am I the only one confused by this?
