6. Keep the Best Alternate Wells

What We Want to See in The Flash Season 4 - Part 2

Tom Cavanagh is, hands down, one of the best parts of The Flash, so, of course, the show should bend whatever rules of the multiverse it needs to in order to keep him around as much as possible. But please, please, can we stop with the parade of alternate universe Wells-es?

While H.R. was sweet, he was also one of the weakest links of Season 3.

His main shtick revolved solely around how not smart he was, which mostly took the form of dumb jokes and just generally being annoying. It seems rather horrible to say so, since he sacrificed his life to save Iris, but H.R.’s death almost felt like a relief.

Why? Because the show didn’t need to figure out what to do with the character anymore.

The solution to the revolving the Cavanagh dilemma seems obvious, though, and that’s to just keep the Earth-2 version around permanently.

That Harrison Wells is a rude, curmudgeonly genius. He’s an anti-hero type who adds some much-needed gravitas to the wholesome nature of Team Flash.

Plus now that his daughter is busy saving the day on Earth-3, he really doesn’t have a reason to stay on his own Earth anyway. And it’s clear he already views these kids like family, too, so let’s just make it official and have him stay for good.

7. Remember That This Superhero Thing is Supposed to Be Fun

What We Want to See in The Flash Season 4 - Part 2

The Flash is at its best when it remembers that, of all the CW DC shows, it’s the one with the most heart.

Unlike its sister series, Arrow, The Flash isn’t dark and broody. (Or at least, it shouldn’t be.) It tells emotional stories — Grant Gustin is an amazing crier, after all — but at the end of the day, it remembers that the point of all this superhero business is hope.

Yes, Team Flash regularly faces dark and dangerous situations, but what always set the show apart is its lighthearted approach to that darkness.

Its stories focus on the love and laughter and light amidst all the trauma. And by doing so, it reminds us why this universe — our universe, really — is worth fighting for in the first place.

Of course, Barry should struggle with his past. He’s been through a lot, but he isn’t Oliver Queen, nor should he be. He’s brave and earnest and goofy and likable down to the ground, and that’s half the reason we love him so much.

So here’s hoping The Flash finds its joy again in Season 4. We all deserve it.
