Younger Review: Fever Pitch (Season 4 Episode 7)

Younger Season 4 Episode 7 “Fever Pitch” left me feeling quite a few emotions. It’s a good episode as always but I don’t think I was ready for that kiss. “Fever Pitch” is very funny, mostly thanks to Lauren and sets up some drama for the second half of the season.

After “A Close Shave,” I wondered where “Fever Pitch” would pick up. From the cold open, it appears that the episode starts straight after everyone leaves Charles’ office and Liza runs back in to see what the hell just happened.

Hello, Charles’ abs. Liza and Charles have a passionate romp among his bookcases, which is a perfect spot for these two.

And then…Liza wakes up.

I hate dream sequences because I feel like it’s lazy storytelling. There’s nothing fresh about them nor does it enhance the storytelling. However, it is just plain fun seeing Liza and Charles let loose on one another. It also helps that they nearly replicate Liza’s dream by the end of the episode.

The road to happiness between Liza and Charles is bumpy, which makes for good television. It is also what makes their relationship dynamic. Although Charles word-vomited his feelings and they engage in a steamy make-out session, the sexual tension is still there.

Charles is Liza’s boss, which makes things tricky. He also thinks that she is in her twenties. Charles will likely understand why Liza lied, but like Kelsey and Josh, he’s still going to be hurt by it. And now, Charles’ ex-wife has entered the picture.

During PitchFest, I couldn’t help but think that there was something off about the woman who woos Liza with a familiar tale about the misconceptions of marriage and having children. It didn’t sound like a book Millennial should publish.

The twist of it being a book about Charles and his ex-wife makes much more sense as to why that pitch was on this episode. Liza, Liza, Liza, you shouldn’t have asked for those additional chapters.

This will be another point of contention between Liza and Charles.

Meanwhile, Kelsey can’t possibly think about Charles “looming” over her so Liza advises her to take the day off and she’ll cover for her. Kelsey says it’s almost the weekend (it’s Wednesday) so why not take a few days off and go away for the weekend?

Kelsey is packing her things with Lauren at her apartment—also Josh’s apartment. Did anyone else forget that Kelsey and Josh are roomies? We have only really seen her at the apartment in the beginning of the season.

It’s a no-boys-allowed weekend but because Josh has weed, he is allowed to come. While away, Lauren confronts Kelsey about her feelings for Josh, which Kelsey denies having any for him. Apparently, Lauren has been ‘shipping Josh and Kelsey, probably just like some members of the Younger audience.

After “creeping” on Josh while swimming, Josh and Kelsey have a little heart-to-heart that night. They kiss.

Kelsey: “It’s not crazy, but it’s not right.”

No truer words could have been spoken by Kelsey. It isn’t crazy for these two to kiss. They both have Liza’s secret in common and they are actual friends. They are also about the same age, very attractive, etc. It would be perfectly normal for these two to hook up.

But it isn’t right! Josh was going to PROPOSE to Liza last season. He should not be kissing one of her very close friends. And Kelsey should not be kisisng her best friend’s ex. Will Liza find out about the kiss? Probably.

The kiss makes me angry and delighted at the same time. Josh and Kelsey make a good match but I still hold out hope that Liza and Josh will reconcile. But what about Charles? Liza and Charles make a great couple too.

Younger simply tugs my heart in too many directions.

Overall, “Fever Pitch” is a very good episode and I can’t wait to see what happens when Kelsey returns to the city. It will also be interesting to see what Charles’ ex has to say about him.

Final Notes:

  • I’m perfectly accepting of Younger appreciating the physical aspects of the male actors.
  • Diana’s necklace this episode was AMAZING.
  • I hope we haven’t seen the last of Zane. Zane and Kelsey have such good chemistry.
  • Lauren has so many funny lines this episode.
  • Some of the penis themed pieces at the weekend house were actually quite classy.
