Teen Wolf Review: After Images (Season 6 Episode 13)

Reviews, Teen Wolf

Fear comes out as the biggest contender on Teen Wolf Season 6 Episode 13, “After Images.”

Gerard, or what we assume is Gerard, is training Monroe to be just like him. And for anyone looking at this episode for its face value it would seem that he is the biggest threat. He’s not.

The people of Beacon Hills are being twisted into unrecognizable versions of themselves, including Monroe. Even the strongest and bravest of its residents are reacting to whatever creature that came from the Ghost Riders dimension. I’m talking about Melissa and Chris.

Both characters shake from head to toe and are barely able to get what they need from that faceless creature found in the locker room. The only time I’ve ever seen these characters be truly afraid is when their children are in danger.

So if the strongest people in Beacon Hills are being affected by this grand fear, then it’s easy to understand what it’s doing to the weaker ones slowly uniting against the pack.

You have to be dumb, deaf, and blind not to know that there’s always been something different about Beacon Hills and that there are creatures in the night that are fighting to protect them. But fear is driving them to ignore that and look at the pack as an immediate threat that needs to be taken down.

The first casualties of this fear are Brett and Lori. Their deaths thrill Monroe and are driving her to follow Gerrard’s lessons even more closely. Their deaths also mark a point that is undeniable by the town and by the pack.

Scott, Malia, Lydia, Liam, Cory, etc. are different. And lines will start to be drawn as the people come to fully recognize this and as word spreads about what happened on that road and what happened in the library.

Now, I’m not saying that all hope is lost. What I’m saying is that the weak-willed will unite against the pack and have greater numbers, giving the illusion that they are stronger.

But there will and there are people in this town who are strong enough to recognize the fear inside of them and not let it overtake them or turn them against the pack. That will put the pack at an advantage no matter what comes next.

Also, we can’t talk about this episode without talking about Scott and Malia. Fear is affecting them as well, but in a way that’s drawing them closer to each other.

It’s easy to see the bond between them solidifying and turning into something more loving. Tyler Posey, who plays Scott McCall and who directs this episode, does a great job at slowly building and dropping hints about this growing bond.

It’s not coming out of nowhere. These two people have fought by each others’ sides for a very long time. And now, it’s shifting into something more multi-faceted and interesting.

Part of me is deathly afraid of what comes next for the pack. But the other half of me is excited and sure that they’ll survive because bonds like this, the one between Scott and Malia, are growing and making them stronger.

Everything might be going to hell in a hand-basket, but the fact that they are thriving and becoming closer than ever shows that nothing will truly take them down or stop them from being the family they are.

That last bit isn’t just about Scott and Malia, either. I’m talking about the pack as a whole. They are family. And they’ll make it out of this. a bit scuffed up but still alive.

Lyra is a TV and movie enthusiast. It all started on a dark night when she turned on Fox and fell in love with the X-Files. It was all history after that as she got lost in Doctor Who, The Marvel Verse and most recently everything DC. Her love for Doctor Who lead her to study abroad, where she fell into live-tweeting and the lovely explosion of fandom life that Tumblr is. Her main love for the summer (with a mega re-watch happening) is Arrow. When she isn’t sharing her love for TV and movies she’s writing fan-fiction, taking care of her family, and puttering around her kitchen.
