Shadowhunters Review: A Problem of Memory (Season 2 Episode 15)
Simon is run through the ringer on Shadowhunters Season 2 Episode 15, “A Problem of Memory,” as he races to prove that he isn’t a murderer.
Simon Lewis has been through hell and back, mostly caused by his loyalty to Clary, and now he has to go through one of his worst nightmares – a rejection by Clary.

ALBERTO ROSENDE, KATHERINE MCNAMARA
There’s nothing more I hate than seeing Simon down in the dumps, but the truth about Clary’s feelings for Jace had to come out eventually. Simon has to get through this heartbreak and move on. He has to realize that he’s better and deserves better than to be someone’s fling for a moment while they fight their real feelings for another.
Clary also has to realize that running to Simon to cry, plead, and apologize isn’t going to make things any better. Own up to the fact that your feelings for Jace are real and spare Simons feelings by continuously telling him that you love him.
There’s a difference between being in love with someone and telling yourself you love someone in order to make yourself happy because you can’t have what you want.
Even though Simon didn’t kill that mundane, he did kill a fellow vampire, and I think that’s going to change the dynamic he has with the vampires. Right now they all fall head over heels for him because he’s a daylighter, but now that they see how far he’s willing to go it’s likely to change.
Speaking of Simon, I can’t believe that Luke’s partner arrests him. But, the look on her face as he rips apart the handcuffs and jumps out of her car is worth the moment of fear that we all have as Simon is being hauled away.
Luke having Raphael help take care of his partner is one of the highlights of the episode for me because she has done nothing but stir up trouble and snoop since her arrival. But at the same time, I don’t think this is the last time we will see her get involved with the supernatural world.

The main highlight of “A Problem of Memory” is when Alec and Magnus have a real heart to heart. It’s so cute the way Alec continues to push Magnus to show how committed he is to him. He actively wants to be there for Magnus no matter what, he’s down for the good and bad sides of the relationship.
It’s a huge move forward for Alec and Magnus’ relationship as Magnus finally opens up about the death of his mother and how he killed his stepfather. Magnus never troubles people with his own problems because he doesn’t like the be a burden so to see him open up to Alec is magical, both for them and viewers.

HARRY SHUM JR., MATTHEW DADDARIO
One thing that confuses me is the fact that the real Sebastian was murdered, while the mysterious body of burnt flesh announces himself to Valentine as his child.
Other Thoughts:
- I hope that we haven’t seen the last of Aline because I feel like she would fit right in.
- Raphael didn’t initially react to Simon killing Quinn, so it’ll be interesting to see how he responds.
