Shadowhunters: Everything We Know About Season 2B
The wait has been extensive and agonizing, but Shadowhunters is finally returning this Monday, June 5th.
With just a few more days to power through until we get to see our favorite Shadowhunter characters on screen again, here’s everything we know about Shadowhunters Season 2B, along with a few promo videos for the upcoming episodes.
Love Triangle Obstacle
The end of Shadowhunters Season 2A saw Jace finding out the truth about his heritage – he’s not actually Clary’s brother. With a bomb like that, it was only a matter of time before Jace was back in the running to win over Clary’s heart. But with Clary and Simon finally in a good spot with their relationship will that be enough?
In a sneak peek for Season 2B, we see Clary fighting her love for both Jace and Simon, finally admitting to one that she wants to be with them. But, who is behind the door?
I’ll admit that love triangles are not my favorite thing in the world, and I’m not desperately looking forward to watching Jace and Simon fight over Clary. In a world with no problems, Simon and Maia would be a couple who go on double dates with Jace and Clary.
But, alas, that is not the case. So, the real question is: who will Clary end up choosing?
Malec’s Journey
Malec is the all-time favorite relationship on Shadowhunters, but when it comes to accurate representation for LGBT people everywhere, it begins to get a little iffy. For the most part, we don’t actually get to see many milestones in their relationship, the main one being their first time together.
It’s insulting to fans to have an openly gay relationship, and it be the number one couple on the show, but to put them on the backburner to show the straight relationship that nobody asked for. This is something that we will hopefully see changed in Season 2B.
According to an interview with Harry Shum Jr. at Hidden Remote, we will get to dive into the more realistic sides of Malec’s relationship. Fans will finally be able to watch Magnus and Alec sharing life changing experiences together, fighting in the relationship, and overall moving forward as one. So far in the relationship, it’s been about defining where they are, getting comfortable with each other, and realizing that they are meant to be.
Let’s be real — the relationship has been the real deal for quite awhile, but it wouldn’t make good TV for them to just jump in head on. I can’t wait to see Alec and Magnus deal with the clashing worlds of the Downworlders and Shadowhunters as a couple. It’s a given that drama will ensue.
Simon Must Learn to Live As A Daylighter
Poor Simon. His life has been to hell and back since becoming a vampire, but it looks like things might start looking up for him. Well, at least we hope. With Simon being able to now walk around in the daylight, it’s a given that he will try to return to his daily routine from when he was a human.
In an interview with Aleverto Rosende at Hidden Remote, he explains that Simon can now go back to seeing his mother and sister on a regular basis, but at the same time, he’ll have to watch himself and not get too close. Endangering his family is something that Simon has never wanted and would ultimately blame himself for if something happened and they got mixed in the middle.
On top of having to watch his family interactions, Simon will most definitely have to keep his guard up from jealous vampires who strive to be Daylighters as well. Being a Daylighter might have some advantages to it, but I feel like it’s going to put more strain on Simon as he will be pulled deeper into the vampire world with his new abilities.

ALBERTO ROSENDE
Izzy’s Return From Addiction
The Izzy that we saw in Season 2A is not the Izzy that we have come to love and adore. Emeraude Toubia stated in an interview that Izzy will begin to focus on herself, getting over her yin fen addiction, and working on her relationship with Alec and Raphael. She will hit rock bottom, but she will overcome it.
The end of Rizzy (Raphael and Izzy) was one of the better things to come from the Season 2A finale, and now, as we see in the trailer for Season 2B, we might be able to see a side to them where it’s platonic friendship and not based off of a drug addiction. I long to see that warrior side of Izzy that we’ve been missing out on for so long. Izzy is one of the strongest fighters at the Institute, and I can’t wait to see her rise again.
The Rise of Sebastian
We know from a sneak peek for Season 2B that viewers will first see Sebastian appear in the Season 2B premiere coming off as a kind stranger helping Izzy battle her yin fen addiction.
From another sneak peek, we also see him trying to help Clary out with her ongoing love between Simon and Jace, getting her to turn her emotions into power. Sebastian is a man of many, many secrets as readers already know.
The only question being: when will he start reeking havoc like we all know he will?
