iZombie Review: Return of the Dead Guy (Season 3 Episode 10)
How can they leave us with a cliffhanger like that?
iZombie Season 3 Episode 10, titled ‘Return of the Dead Guy,” leaves Ravi is a dangerous situation that could result in his death. Do I think they would actually kill off Ravi? That would be a NO.
Let’s take a few steps back to talk about the events leading up to a gun being pointed at Ravi’s head. After the zombie truthers kidnapped Don E, Ravi has to figure out how to maintain his cover while getting Don E and himself out alive.
Harley and his friends are really twisted. They plan to livestream the torture of Don E once they reach 100,000 viewers.
Their plan to starve him is critical. Ravi knows once Don E stays in full-on zombie mode for too long, there will be no going back.
Ravi is often left on the sidelines, but he is right in the thick of the danger. His willingness to die for the zombie cause shows just how far he’s willing to go to protect his friends.
The zombie truthers don’t see them as people. They are dead creatures who are a danger to the general public. However, we as the viewers know that most of the infected zombies are just trying to live normal lives.
When it’s time for the torture show, Ravi does his best to stop them, but Harley is on a mission to cause pain. It’s a good thing Blaine and Liv are right outside and in full-on zombie mode ready to save the day. But more on those two in a little bit.

Rachel seems genuinely concerned when she shows up to the scene. But her motives are still unknown. It seems strange a photographer would risk her life in this particular situation.
I’m thinking she could be a zombie herself or maybe she’s working on behalf of Fillmore Graves to infiltrate the group like Ravi is. All I can say is she seems way less sketchy than Major’s new lady friend.
How could Major be that stupid? I say that with love because he is so much better than his decision to build a lust fort with a stranger.
Shauna seems shady as hell! Like how could Major not notice that she is saying things to connect with him without so much as giving explanations or examples?
When Major mentions the camp he went to as a kid, Shauna says she went too. But when Major asks her if she remembers the song, she doesn’t sing it. He’s the one who does.
This entire subplot feels really forced in an already overcrowded, plot-heavy episode. This better lead to something major for our dear Major.
Liv’s hallucinations of Drake would have more impact had they happened earlier in the season. I feel like we are so far removed from his death at this point.
I appreciate that the writers use this as an opportunity for Liv to admit why she’s been throwing herself into all these annoying brains. Liv really hasn’t been herself for a while. But the fact that the whole thing was about avoiding her guilt for Drake’s death feels a little like an afterthought.
A plot that does work for me is Blaine gaining the upper hand on Mr. Boss. Now that Blaine is a zombie again, he’s able to intimidate him.
Of course, instead of simply getting rid of him, Blaine wants Mr. Boss to help with his business venture. Watching Mr. Boss go from a formidable foe into a scared every-man is a fun transition.

I am loving Blaine back as his old self. It helps that he’s still straddling the line between good and evil at all times. Ravi calls Blaine from Don E’s phone because they need help.
Blaine asking Liv to team up for the rescue mission is a great way to force them to work together. I love the scene where Blaine burns Liv and she in turn bangs his head over and over again so they both go into full-on zombie mode. It also helps that heavy metal music is playing during during all the violence.
Knowing Blaine and Liv are right outside sort of negates the episode ending on a cliffhanger, but whatever. The moment is still enjoyable.
Less enjoyable is this dominatrix story line. I’ll admit, I loved how the case remained fishy, but we are nearing the end of the season with no real answers other than Weckler killed the dominatrix, but was then killed himself by a guard. Now the guard is dead too.
Now we also know that Weckler’s daughter is a zombie. There has to be some sort of thread that will link all these moving parts together, but right now nothing is making sense yet.
The one enjoyable aspect of the dominatrix case is that Clive and Peyton get to spend more time together. We haven’t seen them interact much aside from the group, but I like that they are the outsiders looking into all the zombie craziness.
This is definitely not iZombie‘s greatest hour, but I am hoping the pieces are going to come together before the finale.
Leftover Thoughts and Questions
- Are you not feeling Liv with Justin? Or is that just me?
- While I think it’s fun to see Liv’s visions from the outside, I kind of miss seeing the visuals.
- Whatever happened to Katty, Ravi’s old boss he hooked up with?
- Peyton channeling her inner dominatrix to trigger a vision for Liv is hilarious.
- Ravi not being able to remember Liv’s phone number is such a great throw away moment that comments on modern technology and our interpersonal relationships.
