Gypsy Series Preview: Who Are You When No One is Watching?

Previews

Last week, Netflix released the official trailer for its newest summer series Gypsy, a ten part psychological thriller debuting worldwide on Friday, June 30.

The series is about a Manhattan therapist, Jean Holloway, with a seemingly picture perfect life and growing therapy practice. With this new trailer, we see that she plays with the dangerous line of intimacy while trying to live out her own fantasies with the people closely connected to the patients that she works with every day.

As the line between Jean’s professional life and personal fantasies become blurred, we see her struggle with complex impulses and desires that female characters don’t always get a chance to explore.

Jean: I used to believe that people determined their own lives. Yet there’s one force more powerful than free will: our desires.

In addition to Jean’s indiscretions with Sydney, who happens to be the ex-girlfriend of Jean’s patient Sam, we also see in the trailer that her husband, Michael Holloway, has secrets of his own that include a woman named Alexis. Jean’s coworker Larin is trying to help Jean, but can you help someone who has lost all control?

In a field where boundaries are set for a reason, Jean becoming immersed in her patients lives seems to drive her impulses and desires to a new level. Will this sexy and twisted roller coaster ride end with disaster for Jean or with a happy ending in more ways than one?
