Grey’s Anatomy: 10 Characters Who Actually Survived
7. Richard Webber
We had to wait an entire summer to find out Richard’s fate. We were left at the end of Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 Episode 24 with the image of Richard lying on the floor, unconscious, after being electrocuted.
Luckily, he was found in time, and had some of Seattle’s best surgeons to send him on the road to recovery.
8. Stephanie Edwards
The most recent character to leave Seattle Grace Mercy Death Grey-Sloan Memorial was Stephanie Edwards. Caught in a dangerous situation, she lit a rapist on fire in hopes of escape, then had to walk through fire to try saving herself and a little girl.
She fought like hell on the Season 13 finale, trying to get the girl to safety, no matter what the cost to her own life. Thankfully, she survived, despite serious injuries. Still, her character is leaving the show, not through death, but because she decided she no longer wanted to work in a hospital.
9. Derek Shepherd

Yes, I know. Derek did eventually die. But he still evaded death on more than one occasion, all with the odds stacked against him. Not only was he shot in the chest at the end of Season 6, but he was also part of the plane crash in Season 8.
The third time, however, he didn’t make it. What Derek couldn’t survive was being hit by a truck at the end of Season 11. RIP, Derek Shepherd. This one will never not be painful.
10. Meredith Grey
Last but not least is Meredith Grey. I don’t know about you, but at this point, I think it’s hard to keep track of how many times Meredith has narrowly escaped death.
From drowning, to having her hand on a bomb, to the plane crash, to being severely beaten by patient, it seems Meredith Grey is invincible — or else she’s just that much of a fighter.
Which of these moments was your favorite? Of those who have left the show, who do you miss most? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!
