Jane The Virgin Review: Chapter Sixty-Three (Season 3 Episode 19)

Jane the Virgin, Reviews

Fairy-tales do come true…right?

On Jane The Virgin Season 3 Episode 19, “Chapter Sixty-Three,” the theme is the wonders of a fairy-tale dream. But Jane knows it doesn’t always go that way as she interprets her own version of a fairy-tale during a bedtime story with Mateo.

For Jane, her happy ending was Michael, but she lost him too soon. As she’s now able to come to terms with her reality, she becomes stuck in a position where she doesn’t want to be, which is Rafael and Petra’s relationship.

Now that Rafael definitely has feelings for Petra again, the question is left for Jane to help answer.

Should Petra dive into a relationship with Rafael again?

I’m sure we’ve all had enough of Rafael and Petra’s constant fighting and sabotage these past two seasons, but they were once married and in love once upon a time.

I’m not so against Petra and Rafael getting back together if it means that they can keep this co-parenting gig as steady as how they have been this season.

Jane’s refusal to be apart of this makes you wonder why she’s feeling this way. However, when push comes to shove, we learn why Jane doesn’t think Rafael and Petra getting back together is a good idea because that means she won’t get her happy ending.

I didn’t think Jane would mind this at all, given that she’s in a good place with Petra and Rafael. At least now we understand why she’s been having these doubts.

I wish she didn’t have these doubts, though, because she seems to be doing really well now.

“Chapter Sixty-Three” allows us to learn about Jane’s vulnerability a bit more. Her idea of a happy ending is a perfect, complete family. But isn’t it already clear by now that the way that the families on this show have come together has been a bundle of unexpected connections and just totally unconventional (given how Jane was artificially inseminated)?

The theme of this episode doesn’t only focus on Jane’s wishful thinking, but also her selflessness with Petra and Rafael’s situation. It looks like Jane might be gaining back her feelings for Rafael, and the way that she executes this particular scene on the phone makes me love Jane even more.

While Jane’s on the phone with both Rafael and Petra convincing them that they should give this a shot, the depth of Jane’s character really reflects here. It’s so Jane like to be so selflessly honest, raw, and just downright speaking the truth from the bottom of her heart.

Gina Rodriquez does a wonderful job at portraying Jane’s moment of realization. She puts her sudden reignited feelings to the side and is selfless.

As this season of Jane The Virgin winds down, something tells me the writers might start-up another love triangle again. Does this mean Jane and Rafael might actually be endgame? If they are setting them to eventually be endgame, things are about to get messy.

However, it would be interesting to see Jane be on the other side of it, as in the one that isn’t the chosen one. I just don’t want her and Rafael’s excellent co-parenting dynamic to be ruined above all else.

Other thoughts:

  • Drunk Jane is my absolute favorite. She’s quirky, adorable, and totally carefree. Not to mention, she spills the truth!
  • “I just feel so lucky that I gave birth to my best friend.” Hands down my favorite line of this episode. Xo and Jane’s mother-daughter dynamic is the best.
  • Does this mean we can now say goodbye Fabian?
