The Originals Review: Bag of Cobras (Season 4 Episode 6)

Reviews, The Originals

“Enemies here, enemies there, enemies everywhere!” should be the motto of The Originals Season 4 Episode 6, “Bag of Cobras.” They aren’t a group of ragtag people creeping in the shadows waiting to strike.

They’re all around the Mikaelsons, some in plain sight like Sofya, and others under the thrall of the Hollow.

Whatever this spirit is, it’s not holding back or falling to such arbitrary things like whether you’re a vampire, werewolf, or a witch. It’s recruiting everyone, no matter what walk of life you’re from. That right there makes it the most dangerous foe the Mikaelson’s have ever faced.

For seasons, The Originals has totted around this “keep every species” separate agenda. If they are not like you, they do not understand your plight or know your needs. The witches, vampires, and werewolves have all perpetuated this idea.

It’s like they’re stuck in this endless cycle where they have to prove themselves the better creature, a rebellion happens, and the winning party oppresses their oppressors. The cycle never really ends and allows abominations like the Hollow to sweep in and break the groups by accepting everyone.

If the Mikaelsons plan on surviving the Hollow, they have to follow its example and unite. No more going in half cocked by throwing a fancy party, wearing a deadly bracelet, or killing someone because it’s easiest.

The vampires, witches, and werewolves must unite or fall victim to a creature full of empty promises that unfortunately some people believe.

The Originals Review: Bag of Cobras (Season 4 Episode 6)

The relationship growing between Freya and Keelin is both endearing and frightening.

Endearing because Freya has never experienced a connection like this and she is trying. She is putting herself out there and contemplating something more than her family, her magic, or life in New Orleans. She’s looking at her future and it’s actually positive.

Frightening because I’m scared that Keelin might be one of the Hollow’s followers. There’s no evidence of this yet, but The Originals has managed to pull out the rug from beneath me multiple times.

Please let Freya fall in love with Freya and not have it be some twisted way to side her with the Hollow. Freya Mikaelson deserves to feel at peace and experience everything that life can give her. If she chooses a life with Keelin, let her!

At least one of Mikaelsons needs to find happiness, because from where I’m standing, Haylijah is heading for trouble.

For a shining moment it felt like Elijah didn’t have to sacrifice his life, reputation, or time on reigning Klaus in. Guess that moment is gone.

Elijah is starting to tread a dangerous downward spiral in hopes of protecting Klaus and Hope from having a monster for a father. What about not having a monster for an uncle?

The Originals Review: Bag of Cobras (Season 4 Episode 6)

There are things that must be done to survive, horrible, heartbreaking things that haunt you in your waking moments and those resting. And the only way to work through those is by being with people, your family.

Elijah killed the High Priest of the Hollow to set an example to any other followers who might be following this creature. All he did was drive those people further away in fear and desperation to the Hollow.

He needs to take a step back before he takes things too far and becomes what he’s always wanted to protect his brother from and what Hayley has wanted to protect Hope from.

See, there’s always something in the way of this family’s happiness. Sometimes it’s a foul creature of sorts and other times it’s themselves.

The Originals Review: I Hear You Knocking (Season 4 Episode 5)

Lyra is a TV and movie enthusiast. It all started on a dark night when she turned on Fox and fell in love with the X-Files. It was all history after that as she got lost in Doctor Who, The Marvel Verse and most recently everything DC. Her love for Doctor Who lead her to study abroad, where she fell into live-tweeting and the lovely explosion of fandom life that Tumblr is. Her main love for the summer (with a mega re-watch happening) is Arrow. When she isn’t sharing her love for TV and movies she’s writing fan-fiction, taking care of her family, and puttering around her kitchen.
