The 100: 9 Best Moments from “Heavy Lies the Crown” (Season 4 Episode 2)
Two episodes in and The 100 Season 4 might actually already be my favorite, and no, not just for that Kabby scene.
“Heavy Lies the Crown” is filled with tough moral quandaries, moments of levity and hope, and interesting, dynamic character shifts that just feel right. Every bit of this episode is captivating and intriguing; I’ve narrowed down what we think are the 9 best moments from “Heavy Lies the Crown.”
9. Ilian’s Flashback
We’ve only just met this young grounder, but he’s already one of the most interesting characters on the show. Seeing the flashback to the tragedy with what ALIE did to his family shows us just how widespread the devastation of her reign was in Season 3.

We certainly haven’t seen the last of him. I hope his path continues to cross with Octavia’s as they’ve both lost so much and headed down similar paths of vengeance.
8. The Rise of Octavia the Assassin
As we saw in “Perverse Instantiation Part 2” and “Echoes,” Octavia has acquired a thirst for blood since she lost Lincoln. Now, she’s targeting her very specific skill set to take out grounders who threaten the alliance between Skaikru and Azgeda.

I don’t think Kane or Abby are very happy with the path she’s chosen, but Octavia’s actions, however brutal, may be necessary in these dark times.
Octavia: Long live the King.
7. Bellamy’s Decision
Bellamy seems to have taken Kane’s advice from “Echoes” and turned the page, so to speak. When faced with the choice of giving up what might be the only way to save all his people to save a few dozen slaves, or letting them die to keep the machine, he chooses the certainty of saving the few.
Bellamy: We save who we can today.
Seeing Bellamy make the hopeful choice in tough moments like these reflects the best moral quandaries of The 100.

6. Princess Mechanic
Back at Arkadia, Clarke is bearing the weight of leadership while Raven tries to rally people into actually making the Ark a viable solution.
Raven: I’m not the Chief.
Clarke: And I’m not the Chancellor.

Seeing these two together again is nothing short of amazing. After all this time Clarke is still choosing Raven first. I’m so here for this power duo saving the world!
5. Raven Calling Out Jaha
After watching Jaha become more and more sinister throughout Season 3, it’s so very satisfying for Raven to throw everything he did in his face.
From his decisions on the Ark to his role in teaching ALIE to circumvent consent (his worst crime, if you ask me), Raven doesn’t hold anything back in her anger towards him. Her righteous fury fuels us all. Interestingly enough, Jaha seems as if he might actually be genuinely remorseful about it.
4. Jonty High-Five
Jasper somehow seems more himself than he has been since Season 1 while simultaneously darker as well. Sharing this moment with Monty is so beautifully reminiscent of how their relationship used to be. I wonder if Monty managed to find that stash Jasper asked about?
3. That Roan/Echo Sparring Scene
Yeah, you know the one. Honestly, this scene made the list on hotness alone. I don’t know about you, but I could watch these two go at it all day long.

2. Jaha is Suddenly Interesting
Ever since he came to the ground in Season 2, most viewers have been anywhere from indifferent to disgusted with Jaha. But now he’s become a very interesting foil to Clarke, with backstory to boot (he was an engineer!?).
He’s been where she is. He knows what it’s like to have to make decisions for masses of people and hope that you aren’t running it all into the ground. It’s going to be interesting what kind of information Clarke takes from him and how it influences her choices.
Jaha: We make the best decisions that we can with the information that we have. Then hope that there’s a forgiving God.
1. Kane and Abby’s Love
As Raven would say: finally! Kane and Abby have been working tirelessly to keep their people alive for 3 Seasons now, going from opposite ends of the spectrum to working together as a unit.
All the while, they were building toward something intimate, lasting, and hopeful between them.

Seeing these two finally take a moment for themselves to enjoy each other and the love they share is such a bright spot in a dark world. It’s a reminder that there are good things even in the darkest times.
Though Kane assures her that he’s comfortable with her past and her love for Jake, Abby decides to take off her wedding rings before she leaves to go back to Arkadia. Even as they are separating, she’s essentially telling him that she loves him now.
