Gotham: 10 Questions We Have After “The Gentle Art of Making Enemies”(Season 3 Episode 14)

Gotham, Reviews

Gotham Season 3 Episode 14, “The Gentle Art of Making Enemies” goes out with a bang in more ways than one. The winter finale shows us a city gone mad, that is both exciting and slightly terrifying.

However, it also left me with a few, sometimes flippant, questions:

1.How does the logic of guns apply when you have villains who keep rising from the dead?

Death is officially a joke in Gotham. Even Harvey said that it was good Jim didn’t kill Jerome because he’d probably just come back to life.

“The Gentle Art of Making Enemies” makes the gun the most useless invention ever to grace a superhero property. It makes me wonder why the GCPD carries them! All they really do is provide a temporary escape from bad guys.

2. Can we stop bringing dead characters back to life?

It’s hard to be riveted by a show that keeps relying on old tricks. Stop killing off characters to bring them back the following season. It’s taking away the tension and making the show predictable.

 3. Will Harvey ever find a replacement so he can stop being Acting Captain?

The Captain’s office is cursed, and with the blackout, and some cult members running lose, I’m worried about Harvey. It’s only a matter of time until he’s in danger.

Please get him out of that office before something happens to him.

4. Are the locks on the GCPD cells electric?

After the blackout, all of the cult members the GCPD is holding get loose. Watching them run amok in the squad room was cool until I realize a power outage should not affect a lock and key.

5. Are we ever going to find out what that crystal owl is for?

Jerome broke the crystal owl. Remember, the very important statue? Are we going to find why it is so important now that it’s in about a hundred pieces in Wayne’s manor?

6. How did the GCPD apprehend Jerome so fast?

One thing I am trying to wrap my brain around is how fast the GCPD caught Jerome. This season brings us two villains so far: Jerome and The Mad Hatter.

While both have a fair amount of showmanship, it takes the GCPD several episodes to catch The Mad Hatter, where it only takes two to catch Jerome. (The equivalent of one night).

Jerome may have an extravagant side, but I find his carnival, complete with a cult, much more compelling and a little terrifying.

I hate to advocate for a jailbreak, but he needs to break out of Arkham. Immediately! And evade the GCPD in a more complex and intricate storyline.

7. Did Butch ever really believe he was anything other than muscle?

Really that exchange says it all right there. Butch and Tabitha’s relationship is darling, but really he’s been employed to strong arm the competition.

8. Where is Ivy Pepper?

This continues to bug me. It’s one of those threads that Gotham seems to have abandoned from earlier in the season. Why give Ivy a growth spurt if you aren’t going to give her a more substantial storyline?

9. Does Bruce’s vow to not kill make any difference?

See my concerns in question one. Given that we just established that death has no meaning for villains in Gotham, how is Bruce’s “first rule” going to make a difference?

Assuming that he people he would be killing are villains, wouldn’t someone just find a way to reanimate them?

10.What took you so long to come back to The Court of Owls?

The Court of Owls is the most intriguing thing about Season 3 and I long for the show to get back to it. We got a little hint that they are up to something, but it is not enough to satisfy my curiosity.

Now we have to wait until April 24th to see what is up with Dopple-Bruce!
