Sweet/Vicious: Favorite Quotes from ‘Back to Black’ (Season 1 Episode 8)

Quotes, Sweet/Vicious

Young love, liars, traps, angry outbursts, and forgiveness on Sweet/Vicious Season 1 Episode 8, “Back to Black.” We’re right on track and setting up this freshman show for an unforgettable season finale that will have people talking about the issues this show presents, long after it finishes airing.

As is always the case on Sweet/Vicious, there are a lot of quotable lines from our resident vagilantes to the perpetrators who cause the harm this show is fighting against in the first place. Check out my favorite lines from “Back to Black” below!

On the Ophelia/Evan front we have nudity, harmony, and #FreeTheNipple reigning supreme in Casa de Ophelia. She’s in love for the first time and we’re happy for her.

Evan: I’m not ashamed. The human body is a beautiful thing.

Times are hard for Barton, who takes up vigilante hunting with Harris after being fired. We don’t mind more investigations if he explains every case like this.

Barton: He’s a real fart-knocker. Also rapist. Mostly rapist.

Love that the sorority girls get their own quirks and lines like the one below. It enriches the story and stops them from just being placeholders.

Mackenzie: If he sends one more bouquet, I’m gonna have a nervy B-down.

Thank you for continuing to prove how delusional, manipulative, and disgusting you are Nate Griffin.

Nate: Look, I know how hard this must be for you, but you said it yourself. She has been lying to you, all semester. She told you that story because she isn’t brave enough to own up to what we did.

While difficult and strange, Ophelia is managing to put herself on the line for a chance at love. For now, it doesn’t seem hard. I wonder how long it’ll take for that to change?

Ophelia: You know all we do is hang, have sex, and play games. It’s the best.

Sorority girls strike again with sexy puns that should only be heard by Harris in the bedroom, behind a locked door, at night. We’re with Ophelia on this one. Go away and do it somewhere else.

Fiona: You’re not allergic to all cats.

Darlington sure is educating some fine boys. What kind of English courses did they take to learn to speak like this?

Brady: These young freshie hoes are gonna get mad drunk on that jungle juice. Let’s make it extra strong this year. Time to get our D’s wet.

I don’t believe I’ve ever been to an aquarium/zoo where this particular phrase is uttered. If available in a brochure, Ophelia needs to share and give us all directions.

Ophelia: You know what they say, horny turtles ruin everything.

At Darlington, they provide only the best security for accused rapists. When in doubt, have the “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” button, out.

Brady: It was my mom’s “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” button to use in case of emergencies. But then she started using it when she wanted me to massage her feet.

The saga continues in Nate is a Douche, starring Nate Griffin. In this segment he proves his weakness by displaying displeasure at not having a female on his arm.

Nate: How’s it gonna look if I show up to the party with her? She’s being ridiculous.

It’s go big, or go home, with Jules makeup this week. First she bathed in Sephora, then in the blood of her enemies!

Ophelia: What’s happening? Did a Sephora explode on your face?

I know times are hard and that Tyler’s hurting, but the line below was a little harsh. With behavior like that, how can he expect her to jump right back into his arms? Either stop jumping to conclusions, talk, or move on.

Tyler: What? Am I supposed to just wait around until you want me back? You dumped me, Jules. And I saw you with that frat-douche earlier. I’m just following your lead.

Thanks for the clarification, Brady.

Brady: You’re not sweet. You’re vicious.

The anger and frustration that Jules has been keeping locked inside, finally pours out in this moment, washing over Brady and Ophelia. She’s hurting and lashing out in the hope that Ophelia will understand and also join her in her misery.

Jules: This is the only way that I feel alive. This is the only way we stop him from turning girls into me.

Good thing that Ophelia is stronger than Jules expects. She doesn’t back down or let Jules fears destroy what they have. She stays and pushes back, not out of anger, but out of love.

Ophelia: You think that you can just hide behind that mask and everything’s ok? You have to deal with what happened to you. And if support group doesn’t help, fine, you just have to do something. Look at him. Look at his face. This is not you. This is not what we’re trying to do. This darkness that’s inside of you it’s just gonna grow bigger and stronger and then what? What’s next? You beat someone to death? I wish I could fix you. I wish I could take away your pain and reverse everything that happened to you, but I can’t. I can tell you that I’m scared. And I just want you to be better. But I can’t be the one that heals you, ok? And for that I’m sorry.

We know you’re hurting Jules. Like Ophelia, we’re going to let this one slide until you get some clarity and perspective.

Jules: Because you are a mistake.

Coming to a supermarket, near you?

Ophelia: Fudge nipples.

The Batman with mermaid hair, speaks for all of us. She’s done letting Kennedy and Jules avoid each other. Ophelia lays down some harsh truths in hopes of getting Kennedy’s butt into gear because there’s something more at stake here than their friendship.

Ophelia: I know that you know what happened between Nate and Jules. You saw the change in her after that night. Somewhere, deep down beneath the ‘yas girls’ and the Zeta realness, you know the truth, and it terrifies you. Well it’s high time that you grow some balls and do the right thing.

The words that Jules has been so desperate to hear, finally come spilling out of Kennedy’s mouth. It’s not perfect but it’s a start to fixing something that nearly broke them both.

Kennedy: I’m so sorry, Jules. For everything. For not seeing exactly what was going on with you. For not believing you when you told me the truth.

What every sexual assault survivor should hear over and over again but rarely do.

Kennedy: You deserve to be heard. And you will be heard.

Drop the mic, aka records, and begin to panic. Harris has found the rape wall and knows Ophelia is involved. Could it be because he saw her at the party or heard her through the door when arguing with Jules?

Harris: You have something you wanna tell me?

Sweet/Vicious Review: Heartbreaker (Season 1 Episode 7)

Lyra is a TV and movie enthusiast. It all started on a dark night when she turned on Fox and fell in love with the X-Files. It was all history after that as she got lost in Doctor Who, The Marvel Verse and most recently everything DC. Her love for Doctor Who lead her to study abroad, where she fell into live-tweeting and the lovely explosion of fandom life that Tumblr is. Her main love for the summer (with a mega re-watch happening) is Arrow. When she isn’t sharing her love for TV and movies she’s writing fan-fiction, taking care of her family, and puttering around her kitchen.
