Conviction, Reviews

Conviction Season 1 Episode 10, “Not Okay” takes no time at all to start tying up the loose ends of the show. Tess confronts Matty, Maxine confronts her drug problem head on, and Hayes and Wallace’s relationship is questioned.

“Not Okay” is just the type of episode that fans have been looking forward to since the beginning of the show.

Tess, with a little help from Frankie, finally admits the truth to Matty that she is the one who sent him to prison when she was younger.

And he takes it about how I expected him to. Matty running off is not a major surprise, what would you do if you had just been told by the girl you were falling for that she was the one who sent you to prison for a murder you didn’t commit?

I don’t want to see this be the end of Matty and Tess’ relationship, but it might end up being over. It’s better to tell the truth than live with a lie like that. Who knows, maybe Matty will come around and look at it from Tess’ viewpoint.

The death of Earl Slavitt has apparently changed the way that Hayes views the legal system. Heck, the CIU job entirely has changed Hayes’ outlook on life. Jackson makes an excellent point in the episode: before she never used to care about what happened to the client.

The Hayes Morrison that we saw in episode one and the Hayes Morrison that we watch right now are two entirely different people. At the beginning of the season, Hayes didn’t care in the slightest what happened because the job was something she was being forced to do. Now, I think she has found her calling and real passion.

Hayes pulls a complete 180 from episode one to now. Fighting for the innocent is a passion that she is just now realizing that she has. She doesn’t want to admit it, but she cares for the CIU deeply.

It’s no longer just a job to her anymore; she isn’t being forced to stay or forced to do certain cases. She is doing her research and sticking it to the law to free the innocent.

Before, Hayes would’ve called out Wallace or anyone else in power, but she wouldn’t have gone to that college and called the Dean out in front of everyone. That is the new and improved Hayes talking.

Speaking of new and improved, Hayes and Wallace’s relationship is finally blossoming again.

Wallace broke things off with Naomi and now it’s time for Hayes and him to dive back into the dating pool. After all, they have dated before. They know how to work with each other, but both of them are so stubborn that something always ends up ruining it.

“Not Okay” is the perfect episode to start the beginning of the end. I look forward to seeing the final decisions the CIU takes to fix their problems.

Other Thoughts:

  1. Wallace says that he didn’t break it off with Naomi to be with Hayes, but we know that’s not true. Even through all of the fighting and bickering, this is something that he’s been looking forward to.
  2. By the end of the season, I hope that we have a chance to see all of the Morrison’s in one room. There is, of course, a lot of built up tension between everyone and I think it would make for a good episode to see them work through it.
  3. Sam isn’t as annoying in this episode as he normally is. So, that’s a plus.
