Conviction Review: Black Orchid (Season 1 Episode 11)
Tess finally lets the CIU see more of her personal side on Conviction Season 1 Episode 11, “Black Orchid.” Meanwhile, Hayes and Wallace are working on making their relationship work.
One thing I never would’ve pegged Tess as being is obsessed with serial killers. But, when you witness your aunt’s murder you get into some weird stuff.
This Tess is the Tess that I want to see all of the time.
She is usually a little outspoken, but never like this. Tess takes charge, is vocal about all of her opinions, and doesn’t let Sam – or anyone else in the CIU, tell her she’s wrong when she clearly knows what she’s talking about and doing. Her motivation may be from a weird obsession, but she’s looking for the truth like everybody else.
Accidentally putting an innocent man in prison sure can mess you up.
The subtle hint that Matty forgives her is what I wanted, but I wanted it to be more than that. I was hoping that this wouldn’t be the end of their friendship when the truth finally comes out.
I get it; it’s a lot to deal with when the woman you’re falling for turns out to be the same woman who put you in jail and ultimately ruined your life. But, Tess was very young and had just witnessed her aunt’s murder. You can’t blame her forever when she’s apologized and owned up to the fact that she did it.
Tess is busy running on no sleep to catch the B.O.K. while Hayes and Wallace are trying to keep work talk out of their relationship.
When Conviction first aired, I knew that Hayes and Wallace would probably end up together, but I never expected to like it. They truly are the perfect couple for each other. The only problem? Work gets in the middle of everything. Sure, that can be a good thing when both couples work at the same place, but not when they are both fighting for their own teams. If it comes down to it, Hayes isn’t afraid to drag Wallace through the mud.
Like I said in a previous review, Hayes has truly found her passion in the CIU and will do everything in her power to get innocent people out of jail, even if that includes putting it above her relationship with Wallace.
At the end of the episode Hayes and Wallace, both agree that talking about work is just something that’s going to happen because of who they are. That could cause some real tension in their relationship, but I’m not complaining. The Dynamic between the two is interesting to watch.
Conviction just continues to get better and better. Which is why I’m sad that there are only two more episodes in the season, and still no Season 2 pick up.
Other Thoughts:
- When Cestero starts screaming at Tess for telling a client to lawyer-up Maxine is having none of it. And I love it! Maxine acts sort of like a mother to Tess by encouraging her that she does the right thing and that she is right in the interrogation room.
- Like I said in my second review of this show, I would watch a spin-off show of just Maxine.
- With two episodes left, Maxine better not be getting a possible love interest. Particularly someone like Cestero.
- Am I the only one who feels like Sam could just disappear and nothing would change? His character seems so pointless and unnecessary.
