Blindspot Review: Devil Never Even Lived (Season 2 Episode 12)
Ever have a moment where you’re watching a show and your thoughts align perfectly with one of the main character’s lines? Blindspot Season 2 Episode 12 “Devil Never Even Lived” has me shouting, “No more maybes!” with Kurt Weller
I really enjoy the adrenaline rush Blindspot provides, but I am finding the writing more and more predictable. While I am watching these story-lines, it always seems that the efforts of the FBI are futile.
As much as it is entertaining to watch each week, I have to ask how this team seems to continuously take one step forward and two steps back.
Logically, things can’t go right on these shows.
If every plan went off without a hitch, we as an audience would get bored watching–there also wouldn’t be a show. Still “Devil Never Even Lived,” provides a lot of exposition, and some of it sent up giant red flags regarding later twists.
Take for instance, when Nas assures Weller that they will be able to get the HMX explosive back before it falls into the hands of Sandstorm.
These are famous last words!
Simply stating this fact ensures that this plan isn’t going to go well. So it comes as no surprise to me when the episode ends, and the team gets outfoxed by Sandstorm again. This of course leads to a scene where the team spouts hypotheticals.
Weller says that they need to figure out how Sandstorm stays one step ahead of them and I applaud him for it. Then I immediately want to point out the common thread in these scenarios.
Her name is Nas!

Nas, is the new character and while I want to deny the idea she’s a mole for Sandstorm, it’s starting to look suspicious.
It isn’t just the failed trap to catch Shepherd either. Patterson blatantly points out that through all of Nas’s eavesdropping, she happens to miss a Sandstorm mole.
Right now, all the signs are pointed directly at Nas, but such blatant finger-pointing is going to make for a less dramatic reveal if it turns out Nas is working for Sandstorm.
I sincerely hope that there is a bigger plan. That I am not predicting each and every move that these characters are going to make before they make it.
On a less technical note, I really like how this episode explores Roman and Remy’s relationship. I have been dying for more bits of Remy and I am really glad we’re getting to see her through Roman’s eyes as well now.
This brings another dimension to Remy, and it’s part of her that we really need to figure out what she’s really about. We know the tattoos were her plan, but that’s really it. What were her motivations?
We don’t have anything that really tells us what Remy’s deal is.
We also get to see Roman out in the field, and through his interactions, we got to see a few flashbacks. I want to see more of that. I want to see him start to develop like Jane is.
Dr. Sun’s diagnosis in “Droll Autumn, Unmutual Lord” may hinder how much we get to see of him out in the field, but I am excited to see where his story goes. Plus, now that we have a taste of him in the field, that can’t be all they do with him.
These characters are really complex and the organization they come from is shrouded in mystery. I am still not sure what Sandstorm’s overall objective is, and I think it’s time that those threads start to come unraveled.
So while I enjoy seeing this slow burn tease, would it kill Team Weller to get one solid lead?
