Agents of SHIELD Review: The Good Samaritan (Season 4 Episode 6)
Secrets come out into the open on Agents of SHIELD Season 4 Episode 6, “The Good Samaritan,” but it also gives us more questions to digest.
Robbie finally reveals how he became Ghost Rider to Gabe when they’re hiding from the Director inside the Quinjet. As Robbie tells the story, the way he explains it has so much sadness.
He thinks he deserves to have this demon inside of him for what he feels was his fault in Gabe’s crippling. We know this isn’t true, and that Robbie is a good man just trying to take care of his brother.
Robbie is saved by another Ghost Rider who transfers the demonic power over to him. Is this the original Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze? Will we see him again on here? These are just a few questions that “The Good Samaritan” leaves us with.
Also, we learn more of how Robbie’s Uncle Eli connects to Lucy and the original group that had the Darkhold book and the Momentum machine they were working on.
The group is wanting to help make matter out of nothing to help people. Unfortunately, Eli ends up having another purpose for the machine.

The Lucy ghost plotline has been the weakest part of a strong season so far. So I’m glad to say that the flashbacks this week involving Lucy and her group were the best they have been all season long.
There has been something about Eli that gave off bad vibes ever since we first met him. Finding out that he betrayed Lucy and turned the whole Momentum group into ghosts confirms this.
Perhaps we can blame the Darkhold book for corrupting Eli, but as the flashbacks show, this dark side has been bubbling inside of him for a very long time.
Eli is able to get the book and go back into the machine where Coulson finds him and figures out he was behind it all. The machine is turned on, a wave of white light engulfs the building, and Phil, Robbie, and Fitz have disappeared.
Eli is the only person left in the building, and now has the power he desperately wants in his grasp.
Once again, Agents of SHIELD answers a few questions while leaving us with many. What happened to Phil, Fitz, and Robbie? Are they now ghosts or actually dead? (Yeah, they’re probably not dead, but we have to ask.) How powerful is Eli now? Will we see Johnny Blaze again?
I love this show, but Agents of SHIELD sure does know how to keep us guessing.
Quick Notes:
- The Director puts Simmons on a secret mission for the US Government. We know it’s for Senator Nadeer and that is not good news for Inhumans or S.H.I.E.L.D.
- “A team that trusts…” “Don’t.”
- Coulson’s favorite Star Wars character is Admiral Ackbar? Well they do like getting into a lot of traps so its understandable why its him.
- Fitz teasing Daisy about her hacking skills being rusty was a cute moment and shows how much of a family this group still is. “Too much punching, not enough hacking.”
- Gabe dealing with his brother’s secret is a terrific scene as we see how tough Gabe is. Gabe is at peace with what happened to him, but to see what destruction and death Ghost Rider has been causing makes me him sickened at his brother. Great acting by Lorenzo James Henrie in that scene.
- The machine is housed in a Roxxon power plant because if you need to house something evil, go with Roxxon!!!
