American Horror Story Review: Chapter 4 (Season 6 Episode 4)
American Horror Story: Coven has always been my favorite season, but I think that American Horror Story: Roanoke is about to swoop in and take the crown.
First off, I would like to withdraw my sympathy for The Butcher. Granted, the witch (Lady Gaga) is responsible for how The Butcher acted after she was saved, but it doesn’t change the fact that she fooled the entire Lost Colony into committing suicide to become her slaves for eternity.
Including her son.
Mama doesn’t like betrayal.
Mama also doesn’t like when strangers are living in her house. The nurses, hunters, and Chen family are proof of that.
With the death of Elias and Cricket, it’s safe to say that the Miller’s are in for a wild ride.
They now have Flora back thanks to Elias for knowing where Priscilla likes to play. Oh, and thanks to Priscilla for pushing The Butcher before she could murder Flora. The bad news, Elias was killed while attempting to get Flora back to Shelby and Matt. Three arrows to the chest and he was out.
Only, I don’t think Elias is dead. Cricket on the other hand, yeah, he’s dead. You can’t be disemboweled and still live. There’s no way.
Back to Elias, I think that he is a ghost. I find it very odd how during the blood moon he magically appears to help Shelby and Matt. Where was he for all of these other events if he knew how to help keep them safe?
It’s possible that The Butcher killed him and he’s never truly figured out how to reach from beyond the veil. So, now that the blood moon has come he can indeed help the Miller’s and inform them on the history of the home. I don’t believe his property tax story. Not one bit.
Before Cricket’s unfortunate death – Honestly, Ryan Murphy did Cricket so wrong – he DID inform Matt that he told the witch she could have him.
Knowing this information, Matt still decided to go outside in the middle of the night by himself. This time, though, he was able to break out of the trance when Shelby called for help. Does this mean that the witch isn’t as powerful as we think she is?
With Shelby and Matt being the next targets of The Butchers wrath I’m interested to see how they’re going to defend themselves without Cricket or Elias.
Other thoughts:
- When will Lee be able to leave prison and come back home to her daughter? Flora, Shelby, and Matt don’t have high odds right now when it comes to facing The Butcher.
- The fourth episode has aired, and we still haven’t seen Evan Peters. Where is he?? I figured we probably wouldn’t see him until episode 6, but I didn’t want to believe that.
- Pigman – what’s his deal? It is now confirmed that he was slaughtered by The Butcher like the others. So, what’s his story? Did they mount the pig head on him and kill him or was he experimenting with the pig head before he died?

I still think this season so far is the worst of the 6 but this episode was better than the last three so hopefully it gets better. I thought the interviewer for My Roanoke Nightmare sounded a bit like Evan Peters. Maybe he is the interviewer/ producer?
