Gotham, Previews

When Gotham brought back Fish Mooney in the Season 2 Finale, it certainly raised a lot of eyebrows. Jada Pinkett Smith may be a fine actress, but the character she plays on the show feels underwhelming at times.

And yet, Gotham Season 3 Episode 1 is choosing to put Fish Mooney in the spotlight.

You might argue that she’s been more of an interesting character ever since she gained super-powers, but the fact remains that the character hasn’t worked out so well for the show in the past.

Gotham Season 2 was going great right up until Fish Mooney showed up. She wasn’t even the main focus at that time. Yet her mere presence did much to screw up the show’s narrative.

Still, let’s hold off on a verdict for now and see what we have in the preview.

It appears that Fish Mooney has become the leader of all the Indian Hill escapees. On the other hand, we still have no idea about what kind of powers the escapees might have.

But it looks like both Jim Gordon and Oswald Cobblepot are going to try their hardest to take them down. Penguin still holds a personal grudge against Fish. And as The Riddler points out, penguins do eat fish.

We do get some flashes of Barbara and Lee. According to the interviews at Comic Con, Barbara will be hanging out with Theo’s sister, Tabitha. Lee will find a new love interest after breaking up with Jim.

Another highlight of the preview is Talon (Calvin Rose) facing off against Alfred. Talon is a member of the Court of Owls. Previously, The Court of Owls were revealed to be the ones behind the Indian Hill Project.

It looks like the Court of Owls are going to appear in Gotham in a big way. I wouldn’t be surprised if they turned out to be the big bad of this season.

The synopsis for the premiere, titled “Mad City: Better To Reign In Hell,” reads:

Gordon works in a monster-ridden Gotham as a bounty hunter and seeks to find answers about the Indian Hill escapees, and why their powers appear to be killing them. Meanwhile, Bruce’s doppelganger roams the streets, and Barbara and Tabitha open a new nightclub called The Sirens in the all-new “Mad City: Better to Reign in Hell.”
