Gotham Review: Burn The Witch (Season 3 Episode 2)
So, Gotham just reintroduced Poison Ivy in “Burn the Witch,” Season 3 Episode 2.
If you thought the show wasn’t running out of ideas anytime soon, think again. Ivy’s transformation seems to pass by in a flash, leaving you little time to think. Within a few minutes, she’s all dressed up and suddenly has supernatural control over plants.
It’s obvious Ivy is set on a collision course with the Indian Hill escapees. Considering how she’s learning so fast, it looks like she’ll be a top recruit soon enough.
But Fish is dying, and there’s apparently no cure. Even Strange doesn’t have one. This does leave Fish in a tight spot. Her time is running out, and Gotham does have a habit of changing villains mid season.
Strange’s return is a bit underwhelming. He’s been reduced to a kind of mumbling idiot who begs for his life as soon as he faces Fish. His talk of Fish being his finest creation doesn’t add up to the fact he wanted to blow up all the escapees.
Jim, though.
It’s really hard to know what’s going on in his mind these days. The show is obviously setting him up for failure. He lets Fish go, he gets involved with Valerie, and it’s only a matter of time before Barbara comes after him again.
This Jim Gordon is a far cry from what we usually see from the character. In some ways, he’s supposed to be a bigger symbol of justice than Batman. But the Jim we see seems to thrive in Gotham‘s disorder.
The real highlight of the episode has to be Penguin. Riling up the citizens of Gotham to go after Fish is unusually smart of him. And of course, the faceoff in the woods has to be my favorite moment so far. Penguin letting Fish go after realizing that she made him into ‘The Penguin’s definitely has to be a turning point for him.
Bruce finally gets to meet with the court of owls. And at this point, you realize exactly how stupid he is. He wanted to get himself caught so he could face the court. So he bargains his way out.
Obviously, the bargain puts him in a position where he’s a sitting duck.
But oh wait! A Bruce Wayne look-alike? How convenient!
I freakin’ love this show.
