Suits Review: To Trouble (Season 6 Episode 1)

Reviews, Suits

On this week’s season premiere of Suits, “To Trouble,” it is proven that the show does not need an actual law firm, lawyers, or suits to function.

The episode picks up right after the Season 5 finale, and sets the tone, the plot, and even the feel for the rest of the season.

It’s going to be hard, and we shouldn’t really trust anyone.

The prison scenes for this episode are executed flawlessly. Something about Patrick J. Adams’ face shows that he is in way over his head, and sure- maybe 2 years is not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it’s still two years.

The reality of that situation seems to dawn on him this week when he’s getting his head shaved.

I know everyone’s going to say that they saw the plot twist with Frank coming from a mile away, but I am the first to admit that I did not.

And you know why? Every ounce of my focus is to hope that Mike is just okay. I don’t want to see him break. So when Frank is being nice to him, all I could think about was: Mike would be okay. He has a friend now. He has someone to watch his back.

He’s going to be okay.

So you know what? Maybe Mike was thinking the same thing.

Maybe his hyper active brain just was not used to the situation, and was trying to figure out the best course of action. Maybe he’s just looking for safety since he’s… scared. Or nervous.

I get it.

His immediate reaction wasn’t to sniff out the bullshit Frank was spewing. His basic needs was to feel secure- so that’s what he was focusing on.

It was, however, interesting to see Mike not the smartest person in the room — even if the room did only have two people in it. I am so used to Mike calling people out, or just having a smartass remark for literally everything.

I could see that he is trying. He is trying very hard to not lose himself, and that’s shown through his references to movies. But, we can also see Mike slowly becoming the shell of himself. He just seems so confused, and out of his element.

I’m not sure what this season holds for him, and how long he’ll be in jail- but, I do hope that he doesn’t change too much. I liked Mike Ross.

I liked the Mike Ross that was flawed, and determined but had a heart of gold. I can slowly see that determination and wit being chipped away at.

And you know who I can see changing too?

Harvey Specter.

While Mike’s imprisonment is unfortunate and so sad for everyone, it’s nice to see some scenes- after a very intense season- of the three named partners at PSL smiling a bit.

It’s amazing what a little weed can do.

Stoned-Jessica is probably the best Jessica ever.

But, in all seriousness, it’s a nice way for them to deal with everything, and by the end of the hour, they do make a pact to do everything in their power to get PSL back to its former glory.

I can already feel it, guys.

This season is going to just be one crisis after another. Jessica and her small team will literally just be trying to play catch up with the other senior partners as they try to poach their clients… and the firm’s name.

It’s a scary thought.

But it’s also enthralling. PSL has always been a family, and they stick together when things get rough. Right now, things are as rough as they have ever been- so it’s going to be so much fun to watch it be our team against the world.
