Killjoys Review: Wild, Wild Westerley (Season 2 Episode 2)
Unfortunately, this installment of Killjoys is a little underwhelming.
There isn’t any excitement really, no build up. Sure, there are some good moments, but overall, the hour is a bit of a letdown.
First off, the warrant is the most boring part of the entire hour. There’s nothing exciting about tracking down these 8 criminals — one of them kills himself, 6 are already dead, and then Tarren Tighmon is meh. It’s not much of a challenge. To make matters worse, when our team finds Tarren, the Company kills him with drones.
There is just too much going on. We should have stayed in Old Town for another episode. This way we could have fleshed out the political chaos that is going on and also made the warrant more engaging.
Another option is to just have the warrant be for one person and not 8. Something should have been reduced or taken out because this episode suffers due to the fact that there is too much going on.
Dutch: Jelco tracked the shit out of us, we’ll shit the track out of him.
Johnny: That makes no sense.
Dutch: That’s because I’m angry.
Liam Jelco is definitely a threatening adversary. He kills Hills just because he can, really. Jelco shows that he is above the law in that moment, and it looks like he’s enjoying making Old Town suffer.
Hills, you were one of my favorite characters. You will be missed.
Jelco also refreshes everyone on what’s been going on in the Quad. He provides a recap plus some insight as to why Old Town is encased in a bio dome (aka the wall that Johnny loves) I don’t know about you, but I definitely needed a refresher. I have a tendency to not really remember some of what happened during the previous season of my summer shows. Shut up, I know my memory is bad.
Turin’s reappearance is surprisingly one of the best parts. He’s an ally at the RAC, which is weird to think about, but he is also suspicious and curious about what exactly Level 6 is and what’s going on at the RAC. This alliance will be interesting to watch, and it’s interesting to hear how much Turin already knows.
Sadly, Pree decides to stay in Old Town, but Alvin takes his place on the ship. It’s a shame that Pree is gone so soon. He is a way to lighten things up. Plus, I had my heart set on more missions with Pree undercover. I need to see him and D’av working together. Imagine the hilarity.
I’m not saying that Alvin is depressing or anything, but you just can’t beat Pree’s sass. Admittedly, Alvin will be much more useful. There are so many questions about the scarback’s history, and Alvin will be able to answer those. I’m also looking forward to seeing more of Dutch and Alvin. I have some shipper feelings towards them. Am I alone on this ship?
Okay, does anyone have any theories as to what the beginning means? Dutch’s reflection definitely acts like it has its own mind or something. Also, Dutch is surprisingly calm about the whole thing when she realizes that she moved and her reflection did not. Personally, I would have screamed and/or fallen backwards. I’m graceful like that.
