Quantico Review: Right (Season 1 Episode 21)

Quantico, Reviews

It isn’t Drew.

Yup, that’s right.

In this week’s Quantico episode entitled “Right,” we learn that Drew is not the voice after all.

If I’m being honest, this reveal bums me out a bit for two reasons.

Mostly because it makes Drew relevant again, in a way that didn’t have anything to do with the Ryan+Alex+whoever-else-is-remotely-interesting love triangle. But almost half way through the episode, we see Drew tied to Simon in an apartment building that has an explosive set up at the door.

The second reason why the reveal that the terrorist is not Drew, bums me out is because it’s just another fake out.

If you have too many shocks – too many similar shocks – one after the other, they all start to lose their shock value. At this point, even the character we’re being told is “the real terrorist” doesn’t seem likely anymore.

I have trust issues with this show now, okay?

I don’t believe anything anymore.

And before we jump into who the big reveal is this week, I want to touch on the fact that we get to see Simon Asher again.

Simon’s storyline is always an interesting one, and it’s honestly great to see him back! One of the best scenes, since Alex showing up at Ryan’s door after Natalie’s death, is Simon trying to get Alex out of the car after he realizes this was all a set up.

These two have such a strong bond, and I’m so impressed with how sincerely and organically the writers have been able to play it out. I’d even go as far as to say that Simon and Alex’s friendship is stronger than hers and Shelby’s.

Because Shelby is – or was – kind of crazy when she arrives back in Quantico. In “Right,” we learn exactly why there is so much animosity between Alex and Shelby when they first meet in the future.

It’s because Alex didn’t want Shelby to lose her career by her need for blind revenge for her parents.

To be honest, the confrontation scene between the two girls is a bit dramatic for my liking. With Shelby throwing out serious melodramatic lines like, “You want to talk about a mistake I will spend the rest of my life regretting? It’s meeting you,” I just can’t the whole situation seriously.

I’m sure a very big chunk of this is also because I honestly do not care about Shelby’s whole parent drama anymore; I haven’t in a very long time.

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like it will be going away any time soon. With Shelby working alongside Clayton, not only will we see how their affair started (presumably next season), but we’ll also see them catch her parents.

All in all, “Right” seems to help bridge the gap between the time the recruits left Quantico to the time the bomb goes off at Grand Central. I assume this is because next week’s season finale will focus on Liam being the terrorist. Yup, that’s right.

The big reveal this week, is that Liam is the one behind the voice.

Liam always floats between various shades of grey when it comes to his character’s morality and ethics. He tells Miranda that he’s doing this “to make things right,” so I do hope we get to see what he means by that – if (and that’s a big if) Liam really is the terrorist.

All in all, “Right” sets up the season finale pretty well. We see Alex consciously make the choice to be a “good” agent, which explains why she is so hell-bent on finding the truth about Elias and Grand Central.

Not only will this play out in the finale, but I’m sure it will bleed into Season 2!
