Grey’s Anatomy Review: At Last (Season 12 Episode 23)
Has Grey’s Anatomy gone off its medication? That’s what “At Last” feels like. It’s not an acid trip but rather a creepy dream where both our relationship dreams and nightmares come true at the same time, and all we want to do is scream, “Don’t do it! It’s a bad decision!”
Amelia and Owen are taking leaps and bounds with their relationship. Amelia has persuaded Owen to sell McDreamy’s old trailer and buy a house—a kid-friendly one that leads them to talk about marriage and kids.
She proposes to him and he agrees. It looks like there is an Omelia wedding in the finale.
Had this been any other couple we would be cheering. We would be counting down the days, celebrating a long engagement, and waiting for the wedding episode. With Amelia and Owen that feeling is absent.
It’s all fun and games when they’re pretending to be married, but a few episodes ago Amelia found him in his trailer drunk. Did the writers miss the episode where Amelia fell off the wagon right before Meredith’s attack?
This pairing feels doomed. While we desperately want them to work as a couple, marriage for them makes about as much sense as Callie dropping her job as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery and chasing Penny across the country.
Speaking of them, it looks like last week’s court ruling isn’t playing out so well for Callie. Now that Arizona has custody of Sophia, Callie is not leaving for New York. This spells bad news for Penny and Callie, who end up breaking up.
Arizona is also bitter about the trial, so when Callie asks to switch their nights with Sophia, Arizona defends herself saying that Callie has used up all her grace.
The second proposal of the night is Alex. After asking for Joe to marry him, again, she rejects his proposal.
Jo, enough is enough! Stop stringing Alex along. If you don’t want to go any further with your relationship, just let him go. You go from loving him unconditionally to hating his guts. Three rejected proposals is our limit. Time to let him go Jo.
Now the biggest shocker is Meredith and Riggs. What the heck was that hookup? Along the same lines as Amelia and Owen, I get the feeling that this relationship isn’t going to end well.
And they say that people are supposed to live and learn. Clearly that saying doesn’t apply to doctors.
Stray Thoughts:
- Really? We’re backsliding into Derek and Amelia comparisons? Amelia is supposed to be able to stand on her own. Why can’t they get that right now?
- Richard and Catherine look so sweet. Don’t get me wrong, their relationship has some dysfunction as well, but seeing them after watching all these couples fight was really sweet. The perfect counterpoint to a tension-filled episode.
- Kyle died. This is heartbreaking. Stephanie can’t seem to catch a break with her relationships. She was with Jackson, who left her for April, and now Kyle, who died. She did come to his defense when she found out the procedure that Amelia wanted to do. Who knows how that will play out.
