Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week

This week in TV,  New Girl, Once Upon a Time, and Grimm celebrated their 100th episode, and sadly, the party was a bit of a let down. Teen Wolf wrapped up the tale of the Beast with some help from Allison. The 100 attempted to get rid of Pike and failed, probably because Abby was not around to help. Legends of Tomorrow learned how creepy small towns in the 1950s can be.

Below, some of our writers share their picks from this week in TV.

Funniest Moment

Christine: I’m going with a moment from Darryl’s “Gettin’ Bi” song on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. There’s a moment during the brilliant song where he talks about not having sex until he feels, “at ease,” and if you look closely at the woman on the right, she nods her head very knowingly in agreement. Everyone else looks horrified, but that woman…I rewound a few times just to laugh!

Allison: Damnit, Christine, you stole my answer! “Getting Bi” was the highlight of my week. Between Darryl’s hilarious and giddy dance moves to that woman who agreed with him, the whole thing was absolutely hilarious. I also just loved everyone’s reactions to Darryl holding a meeting to break this news. Paula looked so uncomfortable to be hearing this much information about her boss.

Lyra: Vandal Savage having the creepiest of serial killer doors for his study on Legends of Tomorrow. How didn’t the wife question that monstrosity? Let me tell you, if my husband/wife installed something in my house I’d sleep with one eye open. Where do you even purchase something like that?

Most Shocking Moment

Christine: That sex fake out on Jane the Virgin! I really thought for like, two seconds, that Jane and Michael had sex, and I was FREAKING OUT thinking, “WHY IS THIS NOT A BIGGER DEAL?!” Then, fake out. But man, for those two seconds, I was SHOCKED.

Allison: What part of don’t tell anyone did Brian’s sister Rachel not understand? I could not believe she did something that stupid. I figured that at some point, Limitless would have to have Brian go off on his own away from the FBI, but I did not expect it to be so soon. Brian’s life is a mess on all fronts, and I’m hardcore worried about him.

Samantha: Pike sentencing Kane to death on The 100 stopped my heart for a minute. I mean, I knew Kane was going to wind up in jail at some point, thanks to the Season 3 trailer, but I hadn’t counted on Pike coming for his head. Here’s hoping Abby and the rest of #TeamKane can save him before it’s too late.

Lizzie: Hook’s battered and bloodied appearance when summoned up by Emma in Once Upon A Time. This is the Underworld, and I wasn’t really expecting fun and games, but everyone else seems to be marginally okay – and by that I mean, NOT tortured. Why hurt Hook? Why?

Lyra: The Walking Dead murder spree. Look, I understand the deal they made. I understand why they did it. But a part of me still feels like they’ve become a little more like the enemies they try to defend Alexandria from. Dare I say…even a little like the Governor with his strike first and ask questions later. I really hope it doesn’t progress any further. Rick & Co. can’t lose themselves now. (Especially after Richonne just happened!)

Storyline We Could’ve Done Without

Christine: Did New Girl actually waste its milestone 100th episode on a story that didn’t even have the loft mates all together? Additionally, for a momentous occasion like this, I needed a lot less Regan. Just saying. I was really disappointed in this one.

Allison: Malia fighting with her mom, the Desert Wolf, on Teen Wolf. This was the finale, people! We do not spend it with boring fights that we all know will end with Malia victorious. This should have been wrapped up ages ago, but instead, we had to spend a good part of the hour trapped in that house with them instead of focusing on taking down the Beast. I love Malia, but I would rather see her working with her friends than forced into a boring storyline.

Samantha: It’s becoming a sort of running joke in my head how pointless Jake’s storyline has become on Scandal this season When he does show up it’s creepy and uncomfortable. Give this guy something to do or just don’t have him around at all.

Lizzie: Sara, Kendra and Ray being left behind on Legends of Tomorrow. Actually, can I change my mind to: Anything that has to do with Ray/Kendra? Because, boy, is that not working for me. Not all. And the fact that they left them behind on the 50’s for no reason whatsoever just so they could advance their storyline to their content without us actually seeing it? I like that even less.

Lyra: I’m going to jump on the Legends of Tomorrow bandwagon. Anything that has to do with Vandal Savage makes want to stop watching. Every single time they make us remember this creeper I get weirded out and twitchy to grab my pepper spray. The way that he acts around Kendra is way past creeper and he needs the mother of all restraining orders against him!

Allison is in a love affair with television that doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. Slightly damaged fictional characters are her weakness. She loves to spend her free time curled up with a cat and a show to binge-watch. Allison is a Tomatometer-approved critic (Rotten Tomatoes).
