Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week: Badass Moments from The Walking Dead, Supergirl, and Scorpion

Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week

This week on TV, Oliver and Felicity tied the knot on Arrow, but sadly it was only for Cupid’s benefit. The Flash learned the identity of Zoom, while Kara revealed her identity to Lucy to save Alex’s life on Supergirl. TGIT added a new show to it’s line up – The Catch, and the Peter Krause obsession is back in full swing. Scorpion added a new team member, while Supernatural brought back Rufus and Bobby.

Badass Moment

Lizzie: Kara and Lucy save Hank and Alex on Supergirl. It’s not that Kara saving someone is that weird. It’s that Kara in a motorcycle and accompanied by Lucy Lane in an undercover mission to save the man who used to be her boss and her sister is …well, weird. And amazing. Girls have always kicked ass on Supergirl, and this week was no exception. It was just a new combination of girls.

Lyra: Eugene biting Dwight’s penis on The Walking Dead. It takes some real commitment to go for such a sensitive organ. Eugene’s found a new meaning for life, and he’ll do everything and anything to ensure the survival of Alexandria. What a brave man.

Lauren: As much as I riffed on the rookie mistakes made in Blindspot this week, I think that Zapata deserves the badass moment. She volunteered to go undercover for a case that could have gotten her killed and almost did. Then she saved a bunch of innocent women from a burning house. If that’s not badass, I don’t know what is.

Christine: Rumple tossing Milah into the lake on Once Upon a Time…wow. I mean, it was bad. And he’s an ass. So…that qualifies as bad-ass, right?

Samantha: I’d totally second Lizzie on Kara and Lucy teaming up to save the day on Supergirl, but I’ll talk about Olivia Pope’s different brand of badass on Scandal this week. The episode opens with Olivia, Liz, and Hollis bargaining for debate particulars with the hosting network. Olivia knows how to get her way and do the best for her people, in this case Mellie. She uses her power and her intellect to win without having to lift a finger. To me that’s even more badass than throwing a punch any day.

Allison: Toby and Walter taking down that guard on Scorpion. Badass normally doesn’t describe either one of them, but they managed to take the guy down thanks to some scrappy teamwork, a lot of luck, and a door. Of course, it’s not like they suddenly became action stars, but their daring victory deserves recognition.

Character of the Week

Lizzie: Felicity Smoak, on Arrow. Some people might feel that because Oliver’s the hero of the story he should get what he wants. Some people might say that Felicity’s being too harsh. Others might despair over Olicity. I’m not one of those. Instead, I’m one of the people who stood up and clapped when Felicity Smoak walked away from Oliver Queen, despite his pretty words because this time, Felicity was choosing herself. Because sometimes, to be part of a couple, you have to know when to put yourself first.

Lyra: Alice Vaughan on The Catch. She took her pain/betrayal and channeled it towards catching the coward who conned her. There’s no way that she’s going to let someone destroy the career that she’s built. If he wants to play this game, then she’s all in. He won’t know what hit him when he’s zip tied and on the ground, her knee pressed against his back.

Lauren: Susan Ross on Scandal finally saw the light thanks to Abby. Although I wanted to give her a strong cocktail and tell her that everything will be okay, I totally support her decision to break up with David Rosen.

Christine: Bobby and Rufus on Supernatural! I miss having them around so much. Their banter and their badassery this week just made me think that they should have their own Supernatural prequel spinoff!

Samantha: I’ve got to second Lauren, Susan finally learned the truth about David on Scandal, and she handled it so admirably. It broke my heart to see such a good person as Susan in pain, but the way she took the hurt in stride and did what she had to do was quite brave.

Allison: Lucy Lane on Supergirl. She took a risk by trusting Kara, aka the girl who Lucy partially blames for the destruction of her relationship. Lucy broke quite a few laws, but she did it because she recognized that the system is flawed.

Funniest Moment

Lizzie: Hades turns on Rumple on Once Upon A Time. I’m pretty sure this wasn’t supposed to be funny, but I laughed. I did. It’s about time someone turns the table on the Dark One – he’s been betraying people left and right for years! So, yes, good for you, Hades. Good for you.

Lyra: Sam and Dean on Supernatural playing rock, paper, scissors. These are mature, responsible, hunters who have stopped the apocalypse multiple times. So every time they pull this move I can’t stop from falling into peals of laughter. This is why I love Supernatural, the integration of brotherly love and foolish behavior into the most serious of situations.

Lauren: When Miranda Bailey enters a bathroom on Grey’s Anatomy, you know that the scene is going to be gold. In this case, Torres is in a ladies’ room stall talking to who she thinks is Meredith Grey. When Meredith leaves and Miranda enters the lack of context makes the entire scene really funny. She was trying to relate dating to ice skating, but that is not how Miranda read it. When the scene came to a close Miranda just says: “I’m more of a roller girl myself” and does a little dance.

Christine: Rebecca’s face when she sees the Dream Ghost on the airplane on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Seriously, look up the GIF, and I DARE you not to laugh at Rachel Bloom’s adorable and hilarious surprise expressions.

Samantha: The physical humor on Modern Family when Joe gets stuck in the tar in Jay’s bathroom project had me in stitches. Gloria revealing that all of Manny’s luxury items aren’t actually that expensive, and then the two of them accidentally making the mess so much worse was a riot.

Allison: Josh and Paula trying to figure out where Rebecca was on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. I loved the awkwardness in their interactions. Paula telling Josh how much she knew about his life, and his reaction to it, was absolutely hilarious. Think about it. He barely knows her, and yet she knows crazy specific details about his life. She even called him “pumpkin.” I need more of the two of them together in my life.

Allison is in a love affair with television that doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. Slightly damaged fictional characters are her weakness. She loves to spend her free time curled up with a cat and a show to binge-watch. Allison is a Tomatometer-approved critic (Rotten Tomatoes).
