Pretty Little Liars: 5 Plots That Never Got Closure
Pretty Little Liars was always a show that centered around the suspicious clues that we were supposed to piece together. With the last chapter of the girls’ high school life coming to a close, we should have gotten the answers we were promised. Instead we got some random wrap-ups, so the four-year time jump could start with new questions and hopefully new answers?
But there must be other people who have wondered about the plots that just didn’t add up, right? Here are 5 plots that are still open for discussion.
1. Marion Cavanaugh and Bethany Young

During the big A reveal, we found out that Bethany Young was the one behind the death of Toby’s mother. She decided to push her off the roof in Radley when all she had to do was distract her. According to previous episodes, Toby’s mom died when the girls where in eighth grade, so how could Charlotte be a child when it happened? Charlotte is older than Alison, so she would have had to be a teenager at least. However, it doesn’t seem like she was when we saw the flashback of that night. Not to mention that Charlotte took the blame for Marion’s murder, only to then be let out of Radley? How is a killer allowed in and out of Radley? Their rules definitely led to some problems, maybe they should have worked on that more?
2. Mike Montgomery

Mike was clueless about what was happening to his sister, dealing with his own issues for a major part of the show. But once he started dating Mona there was a big shift in his involvement. Mike reappeared after basically being gone for three seasons, and we saw him get together with Mona and after her ”death” he start collecting her blood near some bridge in Rosewood. That makes perfect sense, right?
This plot was dropped in favor of the big A reveal, but if there was one plot that I would like to see more of, it has to be Mike’s. Even though the actor is playing a big bad over on Teen Wolf, I am sure others would like to see him pop over to Rosewood in his free time. If not for his looks than for the weird plots at least. What has Aria’s brother been up to since the time jump? More blood collecting, or maybe he moved away and is in college studying something boring and reliable? Maybe he enlisted to help the new big bad A?
3. Twins

The idea of twins originally emerged from the books, but small hints definitely made us wonder if it would relocate to the show as well. The hints didn’t happen often, and when they did we had more questions than answers. But still, that has to be something. Rumors of one of the liars having a twin have grown during this season but is this plot actually something that we will get to see. And if so which liar should it be?
4. CeCe

The big A reveal was a long time coming, and with it came the promise of answers. The episode was supposed to help make sense of the five seasons leading up to it, but mostly we were left with more questions than answers. CeCe being A made sense, but then the story she told had holes that even she couldn’t fill. From Wilden saving the day when age-wise he would have been too young to be a cop, to the appearances that she made at the high school that she never attended, it’s safe to say that the fact checking for the episode wasn’t always the best.
A was much more than just a killer or a stalker. A had a medical background with access to medical equipment while also having an extensive knowledge of coding. Did CeCe pick all of these skills up in Radley? The Radley parts of the story, in general, left a little more to be desired, with patients having access to the roof unaccompanied, and allowing a patient who was considered a murder outside of the hospital.
5. Wren

The most interesting plot that we never got an answer to has to be about Wren. He was always a mix of adorable and shady, with a hint of something more. It would make sense for him to be A, he was around from the very beginning and he has a medical background right? He shared screen time with most of the liars and his scenes with Mona were interesting to say the least.
There were rumors that Wren was the big A reveal but that clearly isn’t true. It can’t be a coincidence that so many clues led back to Wren, and the connections he shared with more than enough people on the show. Wren wasn’t a quick guest star, his scenes had a point to them and hopefully we will get that answer before the show ends.
The show is well-known for it’s twists and turns, but if we don’t get ay answers to them, does that mean it’s a success or a failure? While I have loved Pretty Little Liars over the years, the lack of explanations definitely made me less attached to the show. I don’t find myself getting hooked on new mysteries, because chances are, they will be unanswered and gone by the next week.
What are your thoughts? Are they any plots that you want answers to? Or any answers that we’ve gotten that didn’t exactly add up?
Pretty Little Liars airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Freeform.
