Grey’s Anatomy: 15 Times the Grey-Sloan Dream Team Faced Impossible Odds
13. When Bailey, Grey, and Pierce 3D printed the Cyclops.

In “The Bed’s Too Big Without You,” Grey’s Anatomy brought back the 3D printer. This time they printed a tumor that had gotten so big that they couldn’t figure out how to remove it cleanly.
Meredith had the brilliant idea to 3D print a version of the tumor so they could hold it in their hands while they developed their surgical plan.
It took 18-hours to print, but in the end a team of the best doctors in town explored options on how to attack the tumor, dubbed Cyclops. Halfway through their plan, the patient takes a turn and they have to rush her to surgery. The 3D model, serves as guide once they come to the end of their plans and the entire tumor is excised.
Meredith then took the printed tumor home with her.
14. Amelia removed Dr. Herman’s massive astrocytoma.

Dr. Herman (Geena Davis) was a force to be reckoned with, but then her hard-as-nails attitude was explained by an inoperable astrocytoma.
While Dr. Herman got fine with dying, Arizona and Amelia were not content to just let the matter rest. Instead, they commandeered Herman’s medical records and Amelia hatched a plan to free the fetal surgeon from the supposedly inoperable tumor. The 18 hour surgery involved numerous cutting edge treatments that would need to be performed in sequence to destroy every malignant cell.
Plus, due to the position of the tumor, any resection of healthy tissue could end up turning Herman into a vegetable. Which is why Dr. Herman agrees to go through with the plan, but only at the last possible second. (Got to see if that ice cream list gets better after Banana Clam Bake!)
Season 11’s “The Distance” depicted the surgery in detail. Herman lived but woke up a week later blind. Regardless of the outcome, Amelia said that they removed a tumor that had a hundred percent chance of killing Dr.Herman and that made them superheroes.
15. The five-minute rush to get a patient to the OR.

The penultimate episode of Season 11 ended with April arriving outside the ER with a gift for the doctors. A man they wanted to save but couldn’t due to how entangled he was with the car. Standing on top of the wreck April said:
APRIL: I stopped them from trying to extract him. I couldn’t watch him bleed out. You were right! You said, if he was closer to the hospital he might have a chance. So let’s give him a chance!
Keith is in dire straights. They have five minutes after they get him out of the car to rush him to the OR. They clear a path to the OR and proceed to try to free Keith from the vehicle.
Keith was worried that the plan wasn’t going to work. Meredith knew Keith needed to fight so she went to get his newborn baby from the nursery. Everyone was moved by the heartwarming moment and Keith says to Meredith as they get ready to extract him:
KEITH: That was a bad idea, because I am going to be really pissed if you can’t pull this off.
They dash to the elevator with Keith, where he codes, but they were able to restore sinus rhythm. After surgery Keith was stable and awake.
