Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week: Kabby, Olicity, Japril and Others Are Our Ships of the Week
This week on TV, the Klaroline fandom rose from the ashes stronger than ever thanks to the The Vampire Diaries and The Originals crossover, while Kabby took things to the next level on The 100. There are a couple smackdowns this week – Snart cold cocked (ha!) Mick on Legends of Tomorrow, Liv punched her lying roommate Gilda/Rita on iZombie, and Edith went for the verbal attack on Downton Abbey.
Most Shocking Moment
Lauren: It really shouldn’t shock me anymore, but the stunt that Cyrus pulled on Scandal was pretty intense. Staging a scenario so he can get back into the political game was pretty low, but I think what’s interesting is that you didn’t know what was going on until after it had happened.
Christine: That little naive Mike, from MTV’s The Real World New York, somehow became a “wrestler” and was on Supernatural this week! Remember when that guy was on those Challenge shows, messing around with Trischelle? And now, look at him. That’s shocking enough for me with no story attached to it.
Samantha: The last five minutes of The 100 absolutely blew my mind this week. I can’t wait to see how Polaris/Polis/Skaikru overlap, and I’m so excited to everything coming together as one huge, connected story.
Lyra: Snart going back for Sara and ignoring his partners wishes to stay in Legends of Tomorrow. They’re crooks who only look out for themselves…or so we thought. This week’s episode taught us that at the core of it all Snart and Rory are two very different men. One wants the world to thrive and have a holding stake in it. The other just wants to watch it burn.
Allison: Literally all of iZombie from this week. There were so many shocking moments. The most shocking was probably Blaine dying. It was a quick knife to the throat without any preamble, but then he came back to life. What?! Runner up would be Liv punching her bitch of a roommate. I never imagined she would get that violent when she wasn’t in full on zombie mode. This episode was amazing, and what the hell do you mean I have to wait a month for more?!?!?!
Caralynn: I really tried to come up with something else but I have to steal Samantha’s answer — the big Polis/Polaris reveal on The 100 was a TOTAL game changer and raises so many interesting questions. The season can go in any direction after this. Also, I can’t read Titus’ larger motives at all, which makes him a really interesting figure.
Best Moment
Lauren: Watching Jackson and April fight about divorce on Grey’s Anatomy. What seemed like a really calm rational conversation about Chinese food and the purpose of throw pillows just escalated to April throwing fortune cookies. It’s the best accidental humor ever. And the way this sequence was shot was just like watching a little one-act play.
Christine: The Music Man homage on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend that found Rebecca comparing cold water to drugs. It was so darn catchy! I must have sung that song in my head at least two dozen times this week.
Rosie: Everything that happened on black-ish. In a bottle episode that centered around the Jacksons following the news of another police shooting of an unarmed teenager, the family dealt with the complicated issues at hand, including how to talk to your children about police brutality. It was heartbreaking, honest, and revolutionary. Everyone should watch it, even if they’ve never watched the show before.
Lyra: Klaus and Caroline talking on The Vampire Diaries/The Originals crossover. He was going to drop Stefan and let him suffer at the hands of Reyna. But (big ol’ but here) the mere thought of hurting Caroline was worse. He still cares for her deeply and will be there 100 years later, like he promised, to show her the wonders of the world.
Allison: I really just loved the trials on The Magicians. They were all so strange and unusual, but they lead to our core group really learning to open up to one another and work together. If I had to pick one moment, it would be the last (naked) trial where they had to share their biggest truth. This moment was heartbreaking and amazing and it revealed so much about everyone. It’s worth noting that Margo and Elliot were freaking hilarious throughout the trials.
Caralynn: Edith verbally smacking down Lady Mary and calling her a bitch (twice!!) on Downton Abbey was everything I have ever wanted out of this show. Mary has been a nasty piece of work (particularly with Edith) for a long time, and straight-up destroyed Edith’s relationship single-handedly this week. That was the last straw for Edith, who really laid into Mary. Both Laura Carmichael and Michelle Dockery gave that scene their absolute awe. It’ll go down in Downton history as one of the greatest scenes of the entire series.
Ashley: The way Fuller House dealt with Michelle’s absence on the first episode. That breaking of the fourth wall moment was hilarious to me, and I loved the way the entire pilot episode celebrated the original series.

Ship of the Week
Lauren: I honestly think that Jackson/April from Grey’s Anatomy dominated. Not only was the episode’s hashtag, #JapriltheMovie, trending on Twitter before and after the show aired, but there was a lot of speculation for the week leading up to the episode, and lots of backlash for how “Unbreak My Heart” ended.
Christine: Peggy and Daniel on Agent Carter! They’re driving me crazy! They need to stop beating around the bush and just make out already. They’ve been doing this unresolved sexual tension dance for two seasons now. It’s time to give the people what they’ve been waiting for.
Samantha: Abby/Kane on The 100! Granted I am biased and would probably pick these two every week, but this time it’s completely warranted. These two have been growing closer and closer throughout the series, and this season it looks like they’re finally taking the next step. Kane seeks out Abby when he’s scared and worried about the 47 delinquents they’ve taken under their wing and the impending war outside the gates. She comforts him with gentle reassurances, a soft kiss, and the promise of hope.
Lyra: Olicity (Oliver and Felicity) over on Arrow dominated my week. In a not so surprise move, Felicity returned her engagement ring and asked for space from Oliver. She kept a cool head the entire time they were searching for William and decided to put herself first at the end of the episode. Fear not! Hope is not lost. They just need to re-evaluate and take stock of their relationship. Spoiler alert. They’ll be fine.
Allison: Elizabeth and Henry McCord on Madam Secretary. Between the near death experience and Elizabeth essentially creating a special team working underneath the President just for Henry, the McCords dominated this week for me. In my opinion, they have one of the strongest marriages on TV.
Ashley: Harvey and Donna on Suits. Harvey went to Donna in a moment of need, and we saw him become emotional over Mike — the kind of emotion we rarely get to see from Harvey. He’s able to be that way with Donna, and she was able to give him the advice he needed. I’m so ready to see these two together for real.
