How To Get Away With Murder Review: It’s A Trap (Season 2 Episode 12)

How To Get Away With Murder, Reviews

Alright, How To Get Away With Murder, you get the trophy this week! When it seemed that Season 2 was quickly going off track, you swung it back on and left me screaming for more.

This episode is so much better than the previous one. But I’m wondering if all the craziness with the flashbacks last week was done on purpose to open the doors, and now the rest of the episodes will go back and close them? I hope this is the case, because I was eating up each and every moment.

The reappearance of Philip isn’t significant (stalking of Annalise and co. withstanding) because the focus is to bring Laurel and Wes to Ohio — and all that entails. The Keating Five dynamic has changed so much since the winter hiatus, that this time, the reappearance of Philip has Annalise questioning Connor to a degree. And rightly so, it was about time Annalise called her students out on the constant drama they bring to her doorstep.

More interesting, however, is Laurel and Wes trip. The trip was intended to provide closure for Wes, but instead it puts into perspective everything Annalise did to get him where he is today. How To Get Away with Murder is doing an excellent job this season of balancing the relationships of Annalise/Wes vs. The Keating Five/Wes/Annalise that it was fun to see the reverse pairings.

From let’s go to Ohio, to Wes confiding about his foster family, to Laurel admitting that her father was a horrible man, the only resolution is a kiss. Now I may be in the minority here, but I feel that Laurel and Wes make an excellent pair. Whether that be platonic or otherwise. I’m sure Frank will find out about the Kiss, and we will, unfortunately, have to deal with a love triangle.

The one thing I hate is a love triangle. I don’t have the energy to invest in one side or the other. I don’t have the time for them to end in a way that pleases fans. But I find the dynamic of Wes and Laurel to be exciting. Not only do they have a great partnership, but it is also fun and supportive, they both carry an equal amount of trauma to make a romance work. But since we are in Shondaland, I doubt we will get a happy ending.

Other Thoughts:

  • No one has any time for the racist garbage that Annalise faced during that flashback. Next Please.
  •  Annalise referring to herself as The Keating Five’s mom was TOO REAL!
  • I’m so proud of Bonnie when she tells Asher she isn’t his lawyer girlfriend etc. and shuts him down when he wants “help.”
  • Oh and Wes killed his mom. Ooops I almost forgot about that.
