Tell-Tale TV Picks of the Week: Badass Moments from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Scandal, and More!
This week in TV, we time traveled with Supernatural while Penny astral projected to Fillory on The Magicians. Stiles and Scott went to rehab to get Finstock back on Teen Wolf, and Wil and Amberle infiltrated a human colony to get Eretria on The Shannara Chronicles. On Earth 2, Barry stood by his wife and faced some crazy dangers, all in wingtips, to help rescue our Barry Allen on The Flash, and back in Central City on Arrow, Curtis gave Felicity the ability to potentially walk again. While Grey’s Anatomy was dealing with an ambulance explosion, a dirty bomb put Henry McCord in danger on Madam Secretary.
Below, some of our writers discuss moments from this week in TV.
Most Badass Moment
Christine: Whenever Supernatural time travels, I automatically love the episode. But this week’s in particular, “The Vessel,” introduced this totally badass woman of Letters character from WW2, Delphine, and DAMN was she awesome! Within the first five minutes, and under the disguise of his mistress, she murdered a crude German man by stabbing him in the neck AND stomach. Badass indeed. I wish we had more time with her. She was so memorable.
Allison: Henry going back in to help a girl who was injured in the bombing on Madam Secretary. Of course this ended up being a terrible decision since it was a dirty bomb and now Henry’s exposed to a lot of radiation, but it was still an admirable act. He made sure to get all of his kids to safety, and then he went back in to help someone who was injured and alone. No one else stayed, and Henry probably saved her life. Now let’s just hope that they both survive the radiation poisoning.
Rosie: The ladies facing their fears on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Amy, Rosa, and Gina are some of my favorite women on TV right now. They’re smart, confident, badass women on a regular basis, but this week each one decided to conquer one of their fears. Amy locked herself in a car’s trunk to face her claustrophobia, Gina braved coffee-shop small talk to conquer her fear of businessmen (Gina Linetti is a goddess), and Rosa got over her fear of needles to donate blood. Not only was it a fun side plot, but it reminded us that even everyday actions and non-superheroes can be badass.
Lauren: The Mellie and Olivia drinking night in Scandal. Okay, they weren’t shooting guns or anything but I think two women overcoming their differences and working together (with the help of some moonshine) is pretty badass.
Storyline We Could Have Done Without
Lyra: Rayna from The Vampire Diaries appearing as a huntress out to kill them all. This is the big bad they were all running from? The one that held Caroline hostage? She’s a single narrow minded superwoman who has nothing but her grief and boredom to keep her going. I know this is a show about vampires but couldn’t the writers come up with something new? Something not so recycled and bland?
Allison: Lauren tending to Evony on Lost Girl. We’re in the final episodes, people! This is no time to spend dilly dallying around. It was such a waste of space to watch Lauren try to figure out what’s going on with Evony’s gazillion diseases. We didn’t learn anything useful. These final episodes are proving to be underwhelming, which sucks.
Rosie: Whatever’s going on with Parrish on Teen Wolf. Does anyone know what’s going on? Why do the Argents even have a freezer like that? Is Parrish like, dead-dead? Is this a hellhound body snatcher situation? What does this have to do with the ice baths from season three? Why isn’t Lydia in bed with some ice cream after last week?
Lauren: I am really over episodes that try to cover too much ground in forty-five minutes and that’s why I am really hating the ambulance explosion that happened on Grey’s Anatomy this week. Not only was it out there, but it felt as if it was just there for shock value. The only real follow-up to it was Penny and Callie’s awkward conversation in which she talks about how it supposedly “happens all the time.” Really? Wouldn’t that have made headlines?

Character of the Week
Christine: Dottie Underwood on Agent Carter. My goodness, she’s just so wonderful. She’s an excellent villain, but I feel like the audience is so connected to her now that she’s almost bordering on becoming an anti-hero. Watching her begrudgingly help Peggy and then get sucked into this big mess was so much fun. Bridget Regan is brilliant in this role.
Lyra: Donna Smoak from Arrow. As soon as Captain Lance lied to her she said no. She wasn’t going to let anyone treat her any less than the Queen she is. She’s experienced pain before and will only have the best of the people that surround her. It takes an insurmountable amount of strength to give up something you love to place yourself first. That’s the kind of woman I want to see on TV. That’s the kind of woman I want my little sisters to look up to. Give me more women like this!
Allison: Earth 2 Barry Allen from The Flash. I would say that E-2 Barry lives a pretty normal life that doesn’t require any kind of dangerous adventures in his wingtips. However, he went above and beyond and put himself in harm’s way to help save our Barry and to remain by his wife’s side. I’m beyond impressed with his adorkable self.
Lauren: Spencer Hastings on Pretty Little Liars. She went through some tough stuff in this week’s episode and some of her scenes with her mother nearly brought me to tears. I always thought that Spencer had a really hard heart when it came to her family but this episode showed me something else. Especially when she said that she would hunt down the fifteen undecided voters in Pennsylvania and “carry them on [her] back if necessary” to their polling place. Good on you, Spencer.
