The Walking Dead Review: Always Accountable (Season 6 Episode 6)
While this episode of The Walking Dead, “Always Accountable,” isn’t quite on last week’s episode’s level of disappointment, it still dawdles its way around the bigger picture (and the only question anyone really wants answered, at this point).
The episode benefits where last week’s failed from having the focus be on three of the show’s main characters again, rather than Rick and the assorted Alexandrians. Not to mention, fan favorite Daryl Dixon is back in the picture, which is a breath of fresh air for those who have been wondering where the hell he’s been all season.
However, there is still a strangely disjointed plot that circles around Daryl being ambushed by a trio of desperate survivors and Sasha and Abraham sitting around, waiting for Daryl to find them. Who are these people? We don’t know. What’s their story? We don’t care. What do they want? Honestly, we still don’t know.
What we do know is that these new randoms are on the run from a group (that we know very little about) that is being led by a man named Wade. What Wade and his group have done or intend to do, we don’t know. We don’t even know what Wade looks like. Everything surrounding this new group of potential villains and the survivors on the run from them is all very, very vague.
Could this have something to do with the “new group” of survivors Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been cast to lead later in the year?
We’re still waiting to hear what the deal is with the villains and conflicts we’ve already encountered this season, so to introduce another group that we are told nothing about seems ridiculous.
While all of this plot division and slow moving development is presumably meant to build suspense, it’s starting to feel more and more like they are simply dragging out the resolution — trying to kill time and fill space, trying to keep people guessing about Glenn’s fate far longer than they should. As it stands, it’s actually just becoming ridiculous that it hasn’t come up and that no one is talking about the Wolves and their attack, or Rick’s plan for the massive horde of zombies at the gates.
Everything sort of feels like it’s at a standstill — like we’re meant to be holding our breath in anticipation but the problem is that we aren’t being given enough information to have any inkling as to what, exactly, we’re supposed to be looking forward to.
Continuing to build and build tension without ever providing relief or a climax to any plot has the opposite affect of what the show is going for. The tension and interest will fade the longer the subject is avoided.
Tell us what happened to Glenn.
Or what’s going on with the Wolves.
Or with the horde of zombies ready to storm Alexandria.
Or with the new group of baddies that were just introduced.
Honestly, I don’t even care which plotline they choose to follow through on, at this point. Just give us something consistent and exciting. Enough with the filler episodes. We’ve had three in a row now. It’s time to get back to the meat of the show, please and thank you.
