Jane the Virgin Review: Chapter Twenty-Six (Season 2 Episode 4)

Jane the Virgin, Reviews

How could it NOT be Michael after that epic, beyond amazing, and romantic kiss?

Before I get into any of the nuts and bolts of Jane the Virgin “Chapter Twenty-Six,” I have to gush about what is possibly the most romantic moment in the series’ history: Jane and Michael’s kiss under a fake snowing mountain that leaves even Team Rafael fans a little breathless.

When Michael first arrives at Jane’s home and zips up her dress, we expect him to go for the un-zip instead. But Michael is a gentleman, at least where Jane is concerned, and the sexual tension that builds up in that moment is incredible.

When Jane arrives home, walking on air because of that kiss, the answer to the love triangle is obvious — it’s Michael. Jane has no confusion, no hesitation, and no awkward emojis are necessary. Michael is the total package; he’s handsome, thoughtful, protective, understanding, and sexy.

Sorry Rafael…but hey, there’s always Petra! That is, if she doesn’t marry Milos.

Was anyone else a little moved by Petra and Rafael’s moment? His reminder to her of what a miracle her pregnancy is gives us another little glimpse into what their life was like together, and these glimpses are so important to the entire story.

While it’s so easy to look at Petra as a villain, every time we see who she was before Jane entered their lives I can’t help but empathize with her. I don’t want her to have to marry Milos and I was impressed that she is so willing to give up her shares in the hotel in order to prevent it. That line is glossed over very quickly, but shows huge character growth for her.

Petra can walk away from the schemes to get Rafael back and she can move on to a life without him as her husband. She’s got a miracle of her own and she DOES deserve a man who will share a life with her, one without all of the telenovela aspects. I’m proud of Petra, actually. She’s come a long way.

The baby monitor appears to hold some importance here. Jane and Michael are very paranoid about whether or not Rafael can overhear them during Michael’s confession about letting Nadine go, but as they raced out, it appeared that the light was off.

Later in the episode, when Jane confesses to her mother Xiomara that it’s Michael she is in love with, she has the same panic again, and races out to check the light color, which again, signifies that the monitor is off. We see that Rafael is awake and has heard what Jane said over the monitor.

Are we to assume that Rafael overheard Jane and Michael’s conversation? In a jealous fit, will he now try to blackmail Michael? I’d hate to see Raf become a villain, but what else was there to take from that moment? The characters on Jane the Virgin all do strange and unusual things when they are scorned by love.

Rafael is also ready to get lawyers involved for custody agreements with Mateo. While I think this is a sensible request from Rafael, I can also see this going sour should he choose to let his broken heart get the better of him. I don’t want to see little Mateo used as ammo in a battle between Raf and Michael. I love that little guy as much as Jane does.

Speaking of scorned love, was anyone else completely bored by the Rogelio Scientology story line?

I’m sure that I should have found some humor in Luciana blackmailing Rogelio over his involvement in trying to be a part of Tom Cruise’s famous religion. It serves as some hijinks between Ro and Xo, which is fine. I always enjoy seeing them be wacky together. Beyond that though? It was just a silly “B” plot.

Something I love about “Chapter Twenty-Six,” aside from all things Michael, is Lina. We see Jane caught up with love triangles and babies so often that it’s nice to take a break and see her let loose with a girlfriend. Jane needs that balance. She needs a girlfriend to talk about things with, someone who isn’t her mother or Alba.

Lina is a great and understanding friend. Anyone who is willing to stand beside you at a Mommy and Me stroller class automatically gets a win in the friend department. I hope that we get to see more of these moments between these two ladies moving forward. Preferably with more Nelly dances.

Moving back to Michael, who else called that his new partner is shady? I wonder what she’s doing there and what it is that she suspects of Michael. Does she know that he let Nadine go? If she does, does she know about Jane? Will she use Jane to get information out of Michael? Poor Jane, always a pawn.

I don’t usually spend much time focusing on Luisa, Rafael’s crazy sister, because we get so little of her each week. But I wanted to just take a moment to say that I can’t comprehend why no one is keeping an eye on her. She’s a lovesick crazy woman, who will ultimately bring everyone down because of her obsession with Rose.

How blind is everyone around Luisa? They need to lock her up somewhere before she brings Rose right back to them.
