Annie Wersching Talks Bosch Season 2 and the Enzo-Lily-Julian Love Triangle! [Exclusive Interview]

Bosch, Interviews, The Vampire Diaries

Annie Wersching is a jack of all trades, whether she’s playing a vengeful vamp on The Vampire Diaries or a rookie police officer on Bosch.

I was lucky enough to talk with Wersching about how she first got into acting, what’s next for Lily on The Vampire Diaries, and what it’s like to split her time between two such divergent shows.

According to Wersching, the choice to be a performer was made early and easily. She simply got started young and never stopped! “I never really had that sort of ‘aha!’ moment, where I realized this is what I had to do,” she said. “I just kind of started doing the school plays and musicals around 4th grade or so, and then that’s just all I did.”

She also studied musical theater in college and performed in the national tour of Anything Goes after graduating. When the show closed its tour in Los Angeles, Wersching stuck around and made a run for Hollywood.

These days, she splits her time between L.A and Atlanta, where her two shows film respectively.

Wersching explained that the time management of balancing both shows is difficult, but she’s managed to stay involved in both new seasons so far. Switching back and forth between the two shows has actually been a fun adventure for the actress. “It’s really strange, honestly,” Wersching said.

“Not only do the two shows and the tone of the two shows feel very different, but the two characters are just so different… I had to tone it down a little bit once I got into the Bosch world, and then when it was time to head back to Mystic Falls, I had to kind of bump it up again in terms of intensity and, you know, the heightened reality.”

On the topic of her new heretic family on The Vampire Diaries, Wersching enjoys no longer being the new kid on the block. “This year, it’s been really fun to have the heretics and Julian,” she said. “They knew that I was, myself, pretty new, so it’s been really nice to sort of have my own little set of newbies.”

And in true TVD fashion, there appears to be a new love triangle brewing in Lily’s new little family.

As for the possibility of an Enzo/Lily romance versus the pre-existing Julian/Lily one, Wersching teased that there’s still lots of juicy twists to come for those three vampires.

“Unfortunately for Enzo, he sort of professed his feelings at a time when another lost love of Lily’s is about to return, so that definitely makes things interesting,” Wersching explained. “An interesting little triangle forms between Enzo and Julian and Lily, and that’s pretty fun.”

If last week’s team up between Enzo and Valerie in an effort to keep Julian away is any indication, it looks like Enzo will be ready to fight for his new lady love!

In regard to the other vampire triangle on the show (have you lost count of them yet?) including Stefan/Valerie/Caroline, Wersching said Lily will not be taking sides when it comes to her son’s romantic entanglements.

“I think Lily’s biggest question about that whole situation is more geared towards Valerie. Why didn’t she tell her? Why did she lie to her? Is there anything else she really needs to know — which clearly there is. That’s where her biggest focus is right now, and, of course, when Julian comes into play, there’s a whole other dynamic happening there with Valerie and her history with Stefan and Lily’s thoughts on that.”

There’s one more question that I’m sure is on everyone’s minds when it comes to The Vampire Diaries villains: How long will Lily survive? After all, we haven’t seen the elusive Salvatore Matriarch in any of the flash forward scenes yet. Is that a bad sign for Lily?

Naturally, Wersching was tight-lipped about any spoilers regarding Lily’s potential future, but she did tease one thing. “Lily for sure will make some appearances in some other forms and flashes, if that’s a vague enough answer.”

For now, she did confirm that she’s still filming new episodes, so we shouldn’t be too worried about Mama Salvatore… yet.
