SDCC Interview: Leah Pipes Previews The Originals Season 3, Shares What’s Next For Cami
Brace yourselves to fall in love, fang fans, because we’re pretty sure the term “girl crush” was invented specifically for Leah Pipes.
Don’t believe us? Check out our interview with the stunning star below!
We were lucky enough to catch up with Pipes at San Diego Comic-Con in July to find out what’s next for her character, Camille O’Connell, when The Originals returns for Season 3.
By the sound of it, she’ll have quite a few things on her plate!
Not only will Cami — now a licensed practitioner — be helping Klaus with his ongoing therapy, she’ll also be diving into some crime-fighting drama with the sexiest new detective on the block, Will Kinney (Jason Dohring).
Pipes cheekily likened the new storyline to CSI: New Orleans, but Julie Plec hinted that this new career path might have a deeper meaning for Cami.
“She’s very, very resolved to make sure that she is an advocate for the humans and for the non-supernatural community of New Orleans,” Plec said. “The question becomes ‘How do you find justice in a world where you can’t serve justice to a supernatural being?'”
Just the kind of heavy stuff we’ve been waiting to see Cami tackle!
Also on the agenda for our favorite shrink is a little quality time with her buddy, Vincent, as he’ll be drawn in to the supernatural crime-solving agenda too.
Pipes described Cami and Vincent as “two very noble, noble people, who want truly for there to just be peace. No power grabs, no ego driven what-have-you. These two people are like, ‘Let’s mature to a place where we can just all live in peace in New Orleans.’ So they both have the same motivation.”
What you shouldn’t expect to see? Cami playing a huge role in any of the Mikaelson family drama. After a year of sticking close to the Originals and trying to be there for their family, Pipes says that Cami will now be setting boundaries with Klaus and trying to find herself within those boundaries.
We don’t expect these boundaries to be able to keep her feelings for Klaus at bay very long, but it’s the effort that counts. Stay strong, Cami!
In the meantime, we think we’ll keep an eye on Cami’s relationship with Detective Kinney.
There’s been no report of romance between the two yet, and he’ll apparently be too focused on getting the job done for the first four episodes to spend his time smooching anyone. But honestly, who can resist Jason Dohring? He’s got that whole do-gooder, ‘rebel with a badge’ thing going on. Cami might usually go for bad boys, but there’s something undeniably sexy about a man on a mission for justice.

Too bad nobody cares about this character ! She could have been so interesting back in s1 but the writers choose to use her for promoting a ship that no one likes (because we have so much better in TVD between Klaus and Caroline), so yes it’s a big waste.
