7. “How’s that for communication?” (Season 4 Episode 24)

The great thing about this kiss, their first kiss, was that we didn’t see it coming. Because yes, they’d been having communication issues, and yes, they seemed to be moving towards the point of no return where one of them would have to put feelings into words.

But this is TV, and if Mulder and Scully could hold off for seven years what right did we have to expect that Kensi and Deeks would get there so fast?

Well played, NCIS: LA. Well played.

8. “The place that I went to in my head to stop the pain was you.” (Season 5 Episode 1)

Torture and PTSD kind of put a damper on potential romance, but if Deeks’s declaration to Kensi after his rescue doesn’t make your heart beat fast, then you might not be in possession of a working one.

These people work high-stress jobs, they risk their lives every day and they’ve found solace in each other. Like, he survived torture by thinking of her. TORTURE.

I’m swooning a bit here.

9.“It’s a love story.” (Season 5 Episode 2)

Season 5 sort of felt like the season of #Densi, at least when it started. We got Deeks’ declaration in episode one, and then this casual, light and tender scene in episode 2, which really just boils down to Kensi trying to take care of Deeks and him finding the strength to let her.

Yes, he was asleep and probably didn’t know what he was saying, but he was still right: this is a love story.

10. “I want to be at my place right now, with you.” (Season 5 Episode 9)

NCIS: Los Angeles Photos: "Recovery" in Season 5 Episode 9 on CBS.com:

They couldn’t really stretch the what are we/what do you want/where is this going thing for too long. Kensi was always going to blink first, she was always going to be the one to put Deeks on the spot.

Because he’s been the sure one in this relationship from the start. And this time, Deeks doesn’t disappoint. He actually says what he wants. Turns out it’s what they both want.

11 .“Promise you’ll be patient with me?” (Season 5 Episode 10)

The scene before it all went to hell. In fact, when I re-watch it, I think the scene is so perfect that I should have known something was going to happen.

But I didn’t. I was so caught up in Kensi being vulnerable and open and brave, in Deeks being adorably hopeful and in the fact that they were going to have a conversation about their relationship (even if Kensi hates talking about it) that I missed the obvious clues. Oh, well. The scene is still pretty damn perfect.

12. “All in.” (Season 6 Episode 11)

All roads lead to …here. And boy, did NCIS: LA trick us again. We had to wait almost an entire season since the last moment, since the conversation that seemed to change a relationship, but then, when we least expected it, Kensi and Deeks were finally, finally, all in.

“I want to be bold with you,” Kensi said, and if that isn’t a summary of what they once were, struggled to understand, retreated from, and now, finally, were ready to allow back in their lives, then I don’t know what is.

  • I love this article and I have referenced it on many occasions. I agree 100%, Deeks made the show complete. I too struggled to get through the first season. Then Deeks joined, and all was well. Thank you for your insight.
