NCIS: LA Season 7 Preview: Is Callen Going Rogue?
Last time we saw the NCIS: LA team, Callen had finally gotten some answers about his past, Kensi and Deeks were pretending Deeks wasn’t keeping a big secret that could possibly put their professional partnership (maybe even their relationship) in jeopardy.
Granger was surly, Eric was Captain Obvious, Nell was worried, Sam was as loyal as ever, and Hetty was either lying or just plain wrong.
What a difference five months can make (or not).
Kensi are Deeks are, presumably, still in the same cutesy-but-refusing-to-actually-talk-about-the-deep-stuff place. Sam is still giving Callen the benefit of the doubt, and Eric and Nell haven’t moved an inch forward (not character wise, and not relationship wise).
Granger still looks like he swallowed a lemon, Hetty is still either wrong or lying (I’m going to go with lying here — after the whole Kensi/Afghanistan fiasco, I’m never trusting Hetty again), but Callen …well, he isn’t where we thought he’d be.
For one, he has hair! And I’m not even talking long hair here, but any hair on Callen is news. Also, he’s doing shady things without telling anyone. Which is, okay, out of character, but also, really really exciting. Callen’s been a ticking-bomb for years, and the notion that he might finally be going off the deep end is the most exciting thing that’s happened to the show in ages.
To be honest, when the season finale of NCIS: LA aired, I was disappointed. No cliff-hanger. No real resolution on Callen’s father. But, now, with the first glimpse of the new season, all that disappointment is gone. The good thing about not ending in a cliffhanger is that you can start with whatever you want, even your main character going rogue. Because, why not? It’s a new season. All bets are off.
Watch the trailer for the first episode below, and tell us, will you be watching the new season?
NCIS: LA returns to CBS with new episodes on Monday, September 21st.
