Teen Wolf Review: Lies of Omission (Season 5 Ep. 9)

Reviews, Teen Wolf

We’re planning Theo’s demise.

This week’s episode of Teen Wolf, titled “Lies of Omission,” is all about Theo moving the chess pieces around for his own benefit, Sciles (Scott & Stiles) bromance pain, the Parrish reveal, and breaking up our beloved pack. *sob*

Let’s begin!

Theo, Theo, Theo. Could we hate Theo even more? The answer is…YES, WE CAN! For some unknown reason, Theo reveals that he is dead set on having Hayden in his pack. No matter if she’s a real werewolf or an experiment, he’s interested in her to the point where he challenges the mysterious Dread Doctors for her. Theo pulls back in fear when his partners in crime meet his challenge with indifference and refined anger.

Could their disregard for his need to have a pack break their partnership? Could he somehow end up turning on them when the final showdown starts with the McCall Pack? We certainly hope so, since the reveal of an important astrological occurrence, that had the Dread Doctors going all gaga for, was kind of lackluster and last minute.

While we’re on the Theo train, let’s pile on some more lies to make you hate his perfect face even more. Besides challenges against the Dread Doctors, Theo managed to serenade everyone with his lies. He lies to Scott when recounting the story of Stiles and Donovan’s death, and he also lies to the Sheriff when explaining why he and Stiles were at the library, the night of the prank call to the station.

He’s positioning the characters around him for the final showdown.

Cracks in the epic bromance of Sciles are apparent all over because of Theo’s lies. In a confrontation that makes you scoot to the edge of your seat, Scott asks Stiles about Donovan. The truth is revealed and Stiles pleads with Scott for a way to fix this and questions if he believes Stiles killed Donovan in self defense. Scott ultimately skims around the question and walks away from Stiles, leaving his best friend alone, face drawn in pain and confusion.

Everyone was in need of a tissue by this point. Anyone in need of another one now?

It’s understandable that Scott is put in a hard position. He’s the True Alpha and he’s a teenager. It’s a disastrous combination when everyone is looking to you for guidance, leadership and understanding. This practically unknown evil aka The Dread Doctors, is creating havoc all over, and exacerbating the situation. But damn…Stiles is your brother.

You have failed this ‘bromance’ Scott! (For now, because we know it’ll get better and they will be tackling each other with their love soon.)

The Parrish reveal is a combination of a hot fight in the woods with Lydia to distract Parrish, and his innate supernatural genes kicking in. The Nemeton is found and Parrish secludes himself out of fear. He just doesn’t want to hurt anyone anymore. Lydia, assuring him that he’s not a monster, and Parrish asking her to stay out of his way can only mean one thing…Lydia will get in his way. Parrish will light up like a Christmas tree. Lydia will get hurt. It’s not a 100% but the possibility is there, and that’s scary enough!

Scott makes the final decision of the night, and blows us away, by denying Liam’s request to bite Hayden when she shows signs of being a failed experiment. This seems like a jackass move by Scott, especially after his moment with Stiles in the rain seconds before. But lets look at it from another angle. Scott knows he’s losing his pack. He knows that things are different. And he’s finally made a decision for himself and his friends. His family.

He’s chosen not to endanger a girl’s life by giving her the bite. He’s chosen not to let the Dread Doctors jerk him and kill another innocent life. He’s chosen not to let them break his pack up anymore. He’s the True Alpha, and he and his friends are the protectors of Beacon Hills.

It’s time to defend it and unite their pack!

Ominously enough, next week’s summer finale is titled ‘Status Asthmaticus’. Scott’s recent bouts with asthma terrify me and excite me for how that will work with the episode. Will it get worse? Will the True Alpha lose his power? Will anyone give Theo the punch he so rightly deserves for messing with our favorite pack? (Hint on that last one if you’ve watched the trailer for next week’s finale!)

The Mid-Season Finale of Teen Wolf  airs Monday, August 24th at 10/9c on MTV.

Lyra is a TV and movie enthusiast. It all started on a dark night when she turned on Fox and fell in love with the X-Files. It was all history after that as she got lost in Doctor Who, The Marvel Verse and most recently everything DC. Her love for Doctor Who lead her to study abroad, where she fell into live-tweeting and the lovely explosion of fandom life that Tumblr is. Her main love for the summer (with a mega re-watch happening) is Arrow. When she isn’t sharing her love for TV and movies she’s writing fan-fiction, taking care of her family, and puttering around her kitchen.
